A manual on something or other!

My male friend just finished Shadow of the Wind, as have I (had it bought for me by my brother).

spookyspice · 22/10/2007 15:55

Read?

I don't think he can!

lilibet · 22/10/2007 15:59

He is more than half way thru the Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman and is quite enjoying that.

Recently he really enjoyed The Wrong Boy by Willy Russell, especially good if your dh was a Smiths fan

loisstella · 22/10/2007 16:00

if he likes football - this is a good one:

www.amazon.co.uk/Cultured-Left-Foot-Footballing-Greatness/dp/0715636901

its called "a cultured left foot" - by a new author called Musa Okwonga. It was no 1 in the top sports book list in the Telegraph the other day. My hubbie read it in 3 days and loved it.

jumpyjan · 22/10/2007 16:05

dooley1 · 22/10/2007 16:06

Sea Angler (normally with a pic of some fat moronic bloke on the front with a large fish and a large grin)

LittleMissNervoustWitch · 22/10/2007 16:14

i am not a book person, my xdp is a heavy book reader, in a book shop one day we passed a book that he commented on saying it would be an interesting read so i made a mental note and though ooohhh xmas present!
in the xmas rush when buying presents i remebered that book and bought it for him (without readin what it was about)
the book was 'Mein Kampf'
he looked a bit shocked when he opened his present on xmas day

ElenyaTuesday · 22/10/2007 16:33

LOL - you bought your dh "Mein Kampf"? What on earth did he do with it?

No help to the OP - my dh only reads books on cricket!!!!

ledodgy · 22/10/2007 16:34

Op Amps for everyone (second edition)

Well you did ask.

LOOBYLOU2 · 22/10/2007 16:51

If he likes murder mystery police drama
my DH loves James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux
books
He also enjoys Carl Hiaasen which are hilarious and sardonic. Skinny Dip even made my FIL laugh out loud by the pool on holiday!
Embarrasing to admit he is reading The Little book of Derby County at the moment . . . .
I will check out the football book on Amazon tho', think he would enjoy that

QueenofBleach · 23/10/2007 10:50

DH reading the Flashman books which he likes, and just strated Sharpe series, also like Jasper FForde, John o'Farrell and Ben Elton

Mine loved The God Delusion too and has read a few Patrick Robinson books recently. He's currently reading Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island and is laughing out loud at it.

Reamhar · 23/10/2007 13:05

My dh loved "Round Ireland with a Fridge" which was apparently very funny, and I think he also like another by the same author (Tony Hawks) "Playing the Moldovans at Tennis".

pigletmaker · 23/10/2007 20:07

He last read Harry Potter. He said it was overly long, but compelling and necessary
Before that he read Freakonomics which he quoted to me, and that was a lot more interesting.

oliveoil · 23/10/2007 20:15

Anything about China or North Korea

(I think he is a communist)

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 23/10/2007 20:16

John Peel's autobiography

CappuScreamO · 23/10/2007 20:17

A L Kennedy's Day

Sarah Hall The Carhullan Army

Peter Hobbs I could ride all day in my cool blue train (short stories)

screaminghousewife · 23/10/2007 20:18

Dh reading something by Lee Child, am not a fan myself but, if your dh is a rugby fan, he could do worse than read 'Muddied Oafs' by Richard Beard which is an excellent history/biography of 'social' rugby here

mazzystar · 23/10/2007 20:19

The Corrections by Jonathan Frantzen, its not a blokey book especially but funny and sometimes warm and sometimes scathing and a proper bit of literature.

slug · 24/10/2007 18:47

World War Z, an oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks.

Dead good. It's a bit Studs Terkel meets Shaun of the Dead
