Please recommend a book to lighten my mood

I’ve been sad and anxious these last two weeks. I’m normally one for literary fiction, but Oh My God What A Complete Aisling cheered me up in a way something serious couldn’t. Any recommendations for something smart and funny to lighten my mood? Tales of the City are my favourite books ever, but I can’t justify a fifth read through!

Try ‘Less’ by Andrew Greer if you liked the Tales of City books. It’s a gently funny read with some laugh out loud moments about a failed novelist about to turn 50. Its wry and touching - really enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed Less - fits the smart and funny brief!

Where’d you go, Bernadette has a similar West coast vibe. Or, closer to home, what about Jonathan Coe - What A Carve Up, House of Sleep etc

Thank you! I'm ordering 'less' right now.

I enjoyed a Jonathan Coe book last year, so might give a few more of his a try too.

@GreenPeas, I think we might have similar taste in books! The Rotters Club, House of Sleep & The Rain Before it Falls would all be a good place to start @BoogleMcGroogle. What a Carve Up is a really good book & one I really enjoyed in the early 90’s and re read again 2 years ago. Still good but felt a bit dated (although if you don’t have much in the way of admiration for Thatchers Britain you’d enjoy it!).
