Last year you wonderful lot recommended a perfect "read in a day" Christmas novel - The Twelve Days of Christmas. What would you recommend this year? I'm planning on decorating the house on Sunday and I would love to spend Saturday getting into the Christmas spirit with a frivolous, easy read. I have plenty of serious literature & bios in my nightstand. I just want 24 hours of pure unadulterated Christmas nonsense Smile

I read short murder stories all based around the festive season brilliant festive non-mush

"murder under the Christmas tree" was one such volume

The Six Tales of Christmas by Anne Marie Ryan. Full disclosure: I do know the (lovely) author, but even if I didn’t I think this would fit the bill perfectly - set in a village bookshop at risk of closure, and all about the connections that form when the owners send out secret surprise gifts of books to various villagers. Cosy and charming!

I’ve also got Someday at Christmas by Lizzie Byron waiting on my bedside table - haven’t read it yet but also sounds delightful.

@frozendaisy Never considered a murder story but now you’ve inspired me to give it a go.

@piglet81 Thank you - The Six Tales sounds perfect. Love the Cotswolds so will really be able to lose myself in it 😊 I also ordered Christmas Shopaholic for some lighthearted humour & One More For Christmas which sounds like it might be a little sad but hopefully has a positive ending!

It’s not a Christmas read as such, but Antonia Forest’s End of Term contains a fabulous nativity scene which always brings a lump to my throat. I read it every Christmas.

"Christmas Pudding" Nancy Mitford. I read it every year!
