Hi all
Ive started listening to audiobooks at night, currently enjoying the gracekeepers by kirsty logan. Ive also enjoyed the night circus (which i have in hardback kindle & audiobook!), & the time travellers wife. I read a variety of books, but nothing too heavy going or romantic (still getting used to being single) Anyone have any recomendations?

I like some of their non fiction ones. Walking Home by Simon Armitage is a relaxing listen, Princes at War was good and The Salt Path by Raynor Winn all been enjoyable.

I’ve just finished listening to The One Hundred Year Old Man who climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. It was funny and entertaining not heavy or romantic at all!

Do you like "cosy" crime? I can't recommend the Fethering series by Simon Brett highly enough. I totally kept Audible going whilst I got through them. And far more multi dimensional than your Agatha Raisin etc.

Also the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill.

Both really great series.

I recently listened to Where The Crawdads Sing. Loved it.

The Paris Wife is really good, Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series and Meryl Streep's reading of Nora Efron's Heartburn is brilliant.

(I liked the Night Circus and Time Travellers wife too so I think they'd fit the bill.)

Robert Galbraith Strike books.
They're narrated by Robert Glenister who is amazing and really brings it to life.
Much better than the tv show of the books which misses half the plot.

jengamaster · 07/11/2020 21:07

@trumpalumpa totally agree. He does a superb job at the narration.

Tambourinetunes · 07/11/2020 21:10

The Midnight Library great story and really enjoyed the narrator.

BookishZen · 07/11/2020 23:33

I love a full cast audiobook. My favourite ones being The one by John Mars, Daisy Jones and the six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary.

If you like whodunnits, I recommend the Ruth Galloway series by Ely Griffiths.

Thanks for all the recomendations :-) I'm off to check them out.

Another vote for the midnight library! Wonderful book narrated very soothingly.

I’ve just finished the woman he loved before by Dorothy Koomson.

A Single Thread (www.theguardian.com/books/2019/sep/15/a-single-thread-tracy-chevalier-review) by Tracy Chevalier was great as an audiobook. By the way, it’s worth checking if your library lends audiobooks. I get mine free that way.

Stealthynamechange · 08/11/2020 16:12

Thank you :-) I can't use library audio books as i've nothing to play them on - i currently use my alexa or phone through car.
im going to try the Robert Galbraith strike series, Ive added a few others to my wish list too 😊 will keep me entertained a while! Thanks everyone.

Borrowbox app links to your library account and you can borrow ebooks and audio books. You can also reserve and you're sent an email when it's available. It's fab Smile

I have listened to Audible for a couple of years now. I like books which are narrated by a couple of different people. I chose a book 'The Son in Law' by Charity Norman on a whim when there was a 2 for 1 offer. It's a great story and I really engaged with the different characters through the narration. Give it a try and return the book you gave up on.

Tambourinetunes · 14/11/2020 18:06

I listen to audio books From the library BorrowBox app through my phone and could bluetooth to Alexa if I wanted to listen through that.

OwlOne · 14/11/2020 18:09

I love a good audible! The authors I love don't necessarily lend themselves well to an audible though.

If you have one narrator doing several characters' voices it can be wince inducing. I listened to one Belinda Bauer audible (and I like her books when I read them) and the narrator was ridiculous.

stayathomer · 14/11/2020 18:14

Murder at Mistletoe Manor by HollyTierney Bedord - a very light whodunnit

SpectralPlot · 14/11/2020 18:18

Seconding 'The Midnight Library' , lovely late night listening.

SpectralPlot · 14/11/2020 18:21

Just realised I was thirding not seconding but you get the gist :).

Does richard ozmans book suit audio?

I listened to one a while ago "the death of mrs westaway". Only listened to it because a character read the tarot. It was good.
