Not sure if this is best here - or in food and drink. Anyway, I love to cook and enjoy reading food based fiction / books too - I thought I'd list some here and see if anyone has any other suggestions.

Delicious, Ruth Reichl
Miss Graham's Cold War Cookbook, Celia Rees
Mastering the Art of French Eating, Ann Mah (this led me down a Julia Child rabbit hole for a while!)

If you like crime fiction, Kerry Greenwood’s Corinna Chapman series is about a baker. There are recipes and lots of delicious food in them. (Kerry wrote the Phyrne Fisher books).

There are any number of cozy mysteries featuring bakers and caterers and cooks. Diane Mott Davidson is one I remember.

Laura Esquivel’s Like Water for Chocolate is all about food for a wedding.

How ti Bake a Perfect Life by Barbara O’Neal who is a favourite writer of mine.

I’d also add A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking, which is an engaging fantasy by T Kingfisher.

Apricots on the Nile is suppose to be very good, I've not read it but I think some of the 50 bookers have.

The Food of Love by Anthony Capella was one I read years ago and enjoyed, from memory it's a bit trashy but some wonderfully evocative food descriptions!

tripfiction · 06/11/2020 09:36

The Food of Love by Anthony Capella (who is also J P Delaney, which was a revelation!)

Amore and Amaretti by Victoria Cosford

The Hundred Foot Journey by Richard C Morais

The Little Italian Bakery by Valentina Cebeni

Tomorrow there will be apricots by Jessica Soffer

The Art of Killing Well by Marco Malvaldi

The Ingredients of Love by Nicolas Barreau

Cinnamon Roll Murder by Joanne Fluke

Hopefully you have a few there to be getting on with ;)

Thank you, that should keep me out of trouble!

I enjoyed "Delights and Prejudices" by James Beard.
All the Ruth Reichl books, starting with "Tender at the Bone", are excellent.

The Discovery of Chocolate by James Runcie is a mouth-watering read.

bibliomania · 09/11/2020 22:28

It's a memoir rather than fiction, but I really enjoyed Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking, by Anya van Bremzen.

doradoo · 10/11/2020 06:17

Me too @bibliomania

Mmmm yum... What a great thread!

Like Water for Chocolate is my all time favourite foodey novel .... South American and lust and sensuality ooze from every page

On a lighter note, I enjoy all of Joanne Harris's novels .. a mix of food and fairytale for adults. And Prue Leith's Angelotti chronicles are a delight - full of social history around food as the heroine learns to cook and starts a restaurant chain with her Italian husband, moving through war years to modern day through the eyes of her expanding family
