Stuck in hospital, what shall I read?

I am mouldering on the antenatal ward (25wks, placenta previa, escape tunnel from hospital not progressing very fast!).

What shall I read?

I've just finished Zorro by Isabel Allende which was rather good but a bit much for my concentration span in here. And now I'm reading A Bad Brides Tale by Polly Williams which was suitably fluffy until the heroine's sister just had a premature baby, aargh! That wasn't mentioned on the back cover!

I'm wondering about starting Tales of the City (never read them, should keep me going for a while). Or getting dh to bring my Swallows & Amazon set in.

I had a baby born at 22 weeks, very sadly he only survived for an hour. I would have much preferred a long hospital stay.
How about learning French?

mustsleep · 18/10/2007 11:12

anything by jodi picoult

Poor you! I hope the time is going fast!

Have you read any Harlan Coben? Great, fast paced thrillers (that are also quite amusing). There's a new one out now.

If you get the book people catalogue and pay for express delivery, they have a whole set of Harlan Coben thrillers for £9.99.

Or, if you like crime fiction, you could read a whole set of them in order (I did this last summer when stuck inside!).

Ones I'd recommend, Henning Mankell, Ian Rankin, Peter Robinson - read them in order and it's more fun.

Hi Fruitful,

I've spent a lot of time in hospital since my DD2 was born, so you have my sympathy and I hope that your little one does well.
How about a book women travellers? I've read a couple of compilations (one is called Amazonians) and they are a great way to see the world.

Britex,
There are a lot of Stephanie Plum fans about on here - they were recommended a couple of weeks ago on a 'funny books' thread.
I am a fellow addict. Perhaps you should start a thread and all her fans will declare themselves.

I'm taking note of all the book suggestions! Mum is coming at the weekend with a few carriers bags worth for me to sort through.

VV I'm using a laptop. It has a little gadget plugged in the side that is connecting it to the internet via the mobile phone network. like this

Laptop is also good for playing dvds and cds and games!

Hi, Breakfast With Tiffany by Edwin John Wintle is a good read. Here is what it says:

When you are a fortysomething gay new yorker with a stressful job as a film agent, a fruity assortment of friends and the odd obsessive compulsive tendancy, you may not see yourself as an ideal parent. However, when Ed's sister asks him to take in her daughter-the beautiful, capricious and occasionally difficult Tiffany-Ed agrees. Soon, his life has turned upside down as he tries to deal with an exasperating but loving teenager while learning to be a parent himself.
