has anyone else read this? I've just finished, and loved it so much, I want to start again.

I read it last week. I loved it although I'm also baffled by it. It's just so beautifully written.
I bought it for my daughter's 16th birthday (it was top of her wishlist) and she loved it too.

My exDH and I (we co-habit/co-parent) read it at the same time, and absolutely loved it, and are now having very lively conversations about what it all means.

Oh yes! I had to read it again immediately. It is so beautiful, so mysterious, so intriguing. The House is a version of The Wood Between the Worlds isn't it - not a huge leap as she actually quotes Uncle Andrew at the start of the book. You lose your memory there too. And you'll have spotted the Other's name. And the statues! Lots from TLTWandTW.

But so much richer, deeper, more meditative too. Just glorious!

I didn't spot the quote from Uncle Andrew - that's the problem of reading too quickly. I saw the reference to Mr Tumnus though. What other ones were there. And I didn't spot the Other's name, what was it?
Loved the analogy with the Wood between the Worlds. I hadn't thought of that.
I love the engravings of (the real) Piranesi, especially the Carceri series, and thought the author evoked them perfectly.

I had initially been excited to see another Susanna Clarke because I loved Jonathan Strange and have reread it twice - had a quick look in Waterstones and was unconvinced so got A Deadly Education and The Angel of The Crows instead. Anyway I should have trusted my first instinct- Piranesi is hard to define, part fantasy, part mystery but altogether enjoyable. There is something similar at times in the language but really the two books are not similar but both worth a read.

I am currently re-reading!

Nothing has ever compared to the joy of Strange and Norrell for me - favourite book by quite some distance. I really looked forward to Piranisi and loved it too - found it strange/fascinating/beautiful. I was almost a little disappointed when things started resolving (insofar as they did) as I’d have liked the mystery to have been drawn out for longer - I loved the word describing chapters at the start the most. I wonder how long we’ll now have to wait for something new from SC!

Damien Hirst's new statues are identical to the ones in the book. Zeitgeist is a funny thing. Clarke got there first.
