I just want to know how it ends

Sometimes I'm reading a book, particularly one I'm really enjoying, and I'm just so desperate to know how it ends that I can't relax and enjoy the process of reading. Does that make any sense at all? If it's an ok but not great book I never feel the same urgency to learn the whole story.

I'm reading The Binding by Bridget Collins and it's so good, I can't stand reading it so slowly. I almost want to read a summary of the whole plot, including the ending, then I can take my time reading the book. But then I might have wasted it for myself.

Am I completely mad? Does anyone else ever get this feeling?

Yes, I’ve had that with a few books. In which case, I gallop through it, and then immediately re-read properly.

I'm exactly the same. I can't enjoy the book or film unless I know the ending.

+1 - just did that with Troubled blood 😁 got through it twice in the same length of time it took dh to read a 300 page book.
I have also snuck glances at the last page, but that one never works

Yes! I'm one of those terrible people that flick to the back to read the ending but I find then I can actually enjoy the book.

The final part of The Binding was a bit of letdown for me so enjoy the good part!

I started the Binding. First two chapters were really good then I lost interest. It's now gone to a charity shop.

I also, after being so keen to get to the end, found the last part of The Binding a letdown. How disappointing. Oh well.

@Rae36 - I think the whole Lucian section was disappointing compared to the earlier sections and the ending was very Mills and Boon and completely unrealistic for the era/setting.

Same here. I need to know what happens so I can actually enjoy the story and the writing without getting too het up about what might happen.

DH hates it as even if I don't say a word when we watch a film, he somehow knows that I've looked up the ending and it winds him up!

I always read books through very quickly the first time - skim read basically. Then immediately re-start once I know what happens. I've done it for as long as I can remember! My family thinks it's a really odd way to read but I can't help it.

Glad I'm not the only one!

Yes, I'm always up for plot summaries and spoilers for books and films.
