Was introduced to her by my wonderful friend (who incedently introduces me to all the best books I read, I am so crap at choosing a good book).

I loved LOVED fried green tomatoes, and am currently reading 'A red bird Christmas'.. I want to go and hide and read it now, but I don't think DS would be too happy about that!

Somebody asked me last night what I like about her writing.... I said it was because The book literally reads itself to you, and is warm and cuddly (blerugh).

Anyone else like her books? And what other Authors are out there with a similar style to Fannie Flagg?

I only started it last night, It's about a man in Chicago that is given a few months to live as he has Emphysema- he is told to go to the south to avoid the harsh winter as he will not make it.
The Dr gives him a leaflet for a recouperation home place- which turns out to have burned down in 1911, he speaks to a lady at the community centre in the town and she organises a place for him to stay.

Meanwhile the man in the corner shop rescues a red bird and it becomes tame...

I know im going to enjoy a book when I want to sneak off and read it, and find myself reading while stirring the tea.............

I've read Fried Green... and Welcome to the World Baby Girl. I've just looked on Amazon and didn't realise she'd written others as well. Have you read any of Anne Tyler's books, Novacane? They're similar, family based etc.

Have a look for 'Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man' - lovely book.

I'm a big fan of Lisa Alther, and Bailey White who both write about the American south, and families and growing up - also the wonderful Anne Tyler

You're in for a treat then, Novacane, as AT has written lots of books.

I'm noting the other authors mentioned as well, though have read the Ya-Yas already and love the film.

I love FF too. Your description is good, her books do make you feel warm and cuddly. There is a fantastic book which I think you would really like. It's called 'Lucia, Lucia' and the author is Ariana Trigiani

I've only read Welcome to the World Baby Girl but I thought it was lovely...very heartwarming and sobby in all the right places. I'd no idea she also wrote Fried Green Tomaytoes....must look out for more by her.

I love Anne Tyler as well and have read most of what she's written. Her heroines/heros are mostly middle aged, and I can so relate to the characters as I get older
