Affairs in fiction

Can anyone recommend anything?

Having experienced this recently I've become (probably unhealthily) interested in the how's and why so wanted to read about one from any point of view.

But fiction only as couldn't handle someone's real actions!

Marriage Games by Amanda Brookfield

(Keep thinking of more, I love a fictional affair!)

Several Irish Murdoch novels have affairs as a major theme - I particularly liked:

The Sandcastle
The Sacred & Profane Love Machine
A Fairly Honourable Defeat

Iris not Irish!

Thanks all! I'm starting with Here is the Beehive. It's odd but good!

@Derelictwreck hope you enjoy it! Yes, sorry, it’s not an especially conventional book, but it’s such a brilliant portrayal of a relationship.

I read Never Greener by Gavin and Stacey's Ruth Jones recently. It was interesting in that most of the characters were utterly unlikeable but it was very readable and at points thought provoking.

The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton by Anstey Harris.

Twenty-One Locks by Laura Barton
Injury Time by Beryl Bainbridge

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

The Other Side of You by Salley Vickers and also Instances of the Number 3 - I had forgotten this was by her too. She seems to do affairs well!

I’ve just finished My house Is falling down by Mary Loudon

Bridges of madison county?

Try Heartburn by Nora Ephron. Funny. Not all fictional as she wrote it after her husband’s affair.

ivykaty44 · 23/10/2020 19:43

@Kote Was going to put that, did you enjoy the book?

Kote · 23/10/2020 20:05

@ivykaty44 yeah I quite enjoyed it, it was a good twist-y thriller. A bit far fetched towards the end but still enjoyable!

titsbumfannythelot · 24/10/2020 09:38

I enjoyed blood orange too, it was a wee bit different to other books I've read this year.

Getting rid of Matthew by Jane Fallon is great
