Just that really. I feel like taking a bit of a break from fiction and love a good memoir.

Sandi Toksvig’s book Between The Stops is great. It’s themed around her taking bus trips and is sort of a mixture of autobiographical anecdotes mixed with history about the places she’s travelling through. Sounds a bit bizarre but I loved it!

@ChessieFL ooh that sounds good. I’ve always liked her too.

The Trauma Cleaner is a good read, although more of a biography than autobiography.

Three that I’ve read and really enjoyed were Katharine Hepburn, Sue Perkins and Anne Glenconner. Three very different, but uniquely amazing women.

MinnieJackson · 09/09/2020 12:39

Ozzy osbournes was good.

Educated by Tara Westover. I was open mouthed reading it!

Rainyday26 · 09/09/2020 12:43

Michele Obama’s Becoming or Sir David Attenborough's Life on Air.

Kick by Paula Byrne. John Kennedy's sister who died young.

DiscontentedWoman · 11/09/2020 22:21

Viv Albertine's memoir was good and I enjoyed the Peter Hook Joy Division/New Order/Hacienda books.

Pelleas · 11/09/2020 23:29

I really enjoyed Barbara Windsor's autobiography ('All of Me'). She had an incredibly long and varied career, plus a colourful personal life. Much more to her than Carry Ons and EastEnders.

Viv Albertine, To Throw Away Unopened
Trevor Noah, Born a Crime

Loved Elton Johns, I knew a lot about him anyway through being a music lover and never thought much of him but his book totally changed my mind. He's got a wicked sense of humour and can make fun of the fact he's a total diva.

Jackparlabane · 13/09/2020 15:14

Alan Cumming's Not My Father's Son - especially poignant if you've seen his episode of Who Do You Think You Are, but you don't have to have seen it first.

Rupert Everett

And very different - A London Child of the 1870s (and sequels).

And sort of autobiographical - Lillian Beckwith's The Hills Is Lonely and sequels, about living on a Scottish croft in the 40s.

I was just re-reading D.V., by Diana Vreeland, which I love.

I hear that Michelle Obama's autobiography is great.

JoyceByersWasRight · 18/09/2020 21:46

I second Trevor Noah, Born a Crime, cracking read.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 18/09/2020 21:56

Experience by Martin Amis is in my top 5 favourite books of all genres of time. I can't describe how brilliant it is.

My next favourite autobiography is Life by Keith Richards.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/09/2020 22:00

I'm just about to listen to 'How not to be a Boy' by Robert Webb. I heard bits on the radio before and it was great. Cheap at the moment on Audible if you are a member.

Susan Calman's 'Cheer up Love' was great too, funny and though provoking despite being about depression.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/09/2020 22:02

I'd second the Alan Cummings suggestion. I've only heard the audiobook but it's fantastic.

Taswama · 18/09/2020 22:05

I second Sandi Toksvig. V good.
Becoming is brilliant too.
Harriet Harman - A woman's work

Also recommend Adriana Huffingtons (Can't rememberer title) and Toast by Nigel Slater
