Born to run- what else would be good?

DH is keen on his running and blitzed through the Born to Run book by Christopher McDougall.
Any suggestions for similar type books I could add to his upcoming birthday present?
He really liked the adventure, running, educational, biograhical aspects of it if that helps. Usually I would spend a few lunch breaks browsing the shelves but that's not an option this time around with restrictions and it so hard to pick one on-line!
I would appreciate any suggestions!!

Does it have to be running in particular? The adventure aspect made me think of books like The Worst Journey in the World, Into Thin Air or Rough Magic.

If it needs to be running, how about Eat & Run by Scott Jurek or My Year of Running Dangerously.

I also enjoyed The Sports Gene if he wants something more science-y.

I loved Born to Run by the way!

Thanks that's really helpful!
It doesn't have to be running specifically although that's his main thing. Adventure/outdoor type stories and books do seem to catch his interest though.
And yes I loved it too!

Have you read Into the Wild?

TheBlueStocking · 12/08/2020 11:03

You might also like The Martian. It's set in space, but has that adventurous aspect to it.

I've just finished Rise of the Ultrarunners which was excellent, Endure by Alex Hutchinson (more sports psychology, but a very good read). Feet in the Clouds, which is about fell running was unexpectedly good as I knew nothing about fell running.
I have a book about Emil Zatopek (mentioned in Born to Run) waiting on my Kindle that got good reviews

Eat and Run was OK, but didn't really grab me

@TheBlueStocking yes we've both read both of those and enjoyed them! I feel like I've found my people here!

What I Talk About When I Think About Running by Haruki Murakami - I loved it and often reflect back to it now.
Also, Playground of the Gods by Ian Stafford may be up his street too!

CalmConfident · 16/08/2020 23:00

I was about to recommend What I talk about when I think about running but @Mumofcats5 beat me too it Grin

Running with the Kenyans by adarnand Finn is great too ;checking spelling!

There are more than I thought

Feet in the clouds is excellent and made me feel like I wanted to rush out and dash round a BobGraham round, even though I can barely manage 5km on the flat. Vassos Alexander’s running books are also super and inspirational

Thanks everyone. I've found this really helpful. I have a couple of books on order now for the birthday and also Father's Day and Christmas!

Ultramarathon Man by Dean Karnazes

Theredjellybean · 10/09/2020 12:32

He might like blood river..not running but story of the author's journey accros the Congo.
Really gripping adventure , funny in places.

BestIsWest · 11/09/2020 22:09

Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. Mountain climbing rather than running but it more than ticks the adventure box.

+1 for Feet in the Clouds.
