I need one for when I go running due to the fact I'm (definitely) not a established runner. I need something to distract myself wanting to stop and lie down and die.

The one I'm listening to now is good but has more "beautiful prose" than plot and it's just not cutting the mustard as a distraction.

I would recommend Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier read by Anna Massey.

Or, more contemporary, The Girls by Lisa Jewell

I'd second most books by Lisa Jewell, or if you like murder mysteries I have been listening to Tana French - they're in a series so make sure you listen in the right order.

The Cormoran Strike books and anything by Chris Brookmyre.

I tend to listen to audiobooks when driving, and have listened to plenty. My best experiences so far have been:

The Rivers of London series, narrated by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith
Full-cast dramatisation of Locke and Key
Full cast dramatisation of The Sandman (with narration by Neil Gaiman)

I also rather enjoy the BBC dramatisations of the Austen novels and The Count of Monte Cristo - shorter and abridged - if Fantasy is not your preferred genre.

David Jackson: A Tapping at my Door.

Thoroughly enjoyed, thriller type.

The Falls by Ian Rankin. A full length, stand alone Inspector Rebus story. On audio.co, it's beautifully narrated and, in equivalent reading terms, a real page turner!

Oh lovely thanks. Shall look into these. I not usually audio book person - because I get distracted when doing things and miss chunks of the story (so I'm finding them perfect to distract me from what I'm doing when im running!!).

I've read some of the suggestions but it could be a different experience to listen to them.

Thanks!

Try humour - it really helped me in my early days of running. I recently listened to Miriam Margoyles reading The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie - fabulous!

NOS4R2 by Joe Hill

Educated by Tara Westover. It's her memoir and totally amazing, I also listened to much of it while running. You completely forgot about the pain.
