By Sarah J Maas

I am running out of reading material. I have read all of my book several times Grin

I like fantasy/magical type stories which are usually young adult/teens.

I prefer if it’s got a female main character and usually written by women.

I have several books so I can’t name all of them but here is a few I have so you get the idea of what I like.

Poison study series by Maria Snyder
Riley Jenson series/Risa Jones/Ember something by Keri Arthur

I’ve got all of the True Blood books too

I read a lot of YA fantasy. I recommend the Grishaverse trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, also her Six of Crows duology.

Laini Taylor's Strange the Dreamer series, and also her Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy.

The Tearling Trilogy by Erika Johansen.

Trudi Canavan's The Black Magician trilogy is also good, and a great series with a few fantastic female characters is Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea trilogy.

I seem to read a lot of trilogies Smile

I second Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows duology. It was amazing! I am just finishing her Grishaverse trilogy and it was nowhere near as good.

Soubriquet · 28/04/2020 18:35

I have book one of the grishaverse actually.

It was ok. I read it to the end but it was predictable

I’ll have a look at the others

I actually have one of Lani Taylor’s book. I really enjoyed it. Nice to see there are more. I have the Muse of Nightmares

Have you tried the study books by Maria V Snyder? I think they're collectively the Chronicles of Ixia

Sadik · 28/04/2020 18:40

I reckon you'd really like Naomi Novik's books Uprooted & Spinning Silver.

Sadik · 28/04/2020 18:41

Have you read Cassandra Clare's books? More urban fantasy, but the Clockwork Angel series in particular is a great read with a wonderful heroine.

Soubriquet · 28/04/2020 18:42

Yes to Maria V Snyders

Yes to Cassandra Clare but so far only the mortal instruments

Thanks for all the suggestions so far

Clockwork Angel is alt-Victorian, I'd recommend them.

Emma Newman's Split Worlds series is also a good read with a strong heroine, the first one Between Two Thorns is only a couple of quid on Kindle and often on offer cheaper, so not much lost to try them out.

I've just finished the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. It's a bit like a grown up version of Twilight and I loved it!

Feawen · 30/04/2020 16:36

Graceling by Kristin Kashore (and, if you like it, Fire and Bitterblue, which are set in the same world).

Any of Robin McKinley’s books

Second the recommendation for Naomi Novik’s Uprooted and Spinning Silver, both folklore-inspired fantasy novels with strong female leads.

The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, based on Russian folklore with elements of historical fiction

weebarra · 30/04/2020 16:43

I really like Naomi Novik's books too.

Crazycrazylady · 30/04/2020 16:45

I'd recommend Karen Marie Moning Fever series. I borrowed the first book from my library and then had to buy the rest!
