I seem to have accumulated some credits that I would like to use - does anyone have any recommendations please?

The narrator can make or break an audiobook for me. I really enjoyed

Harry Potter series
Rivers of London series
Ready Player One

Not too worried about genre but needs to be a good narrator!

Many thanks :)

Following - me and ds have been listening to Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry which I loved.

Downloaded a Lisa Jewel book yesterday and had to return it as the neasrtion was awful.

Currently listening to Eleanor Oliphant and the narration is better but still not quite me.

Interested in recommendations too!

I really liked the graveyard book by Neil gaiman. Also the bbc radio dramas on audible.

Frenchfancy · 13/04/2020 12:50

The Martian is brilliant.

Pinkarsedfly · 16/04/2020 21:19

I’m listening to Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell at the moment and it’s wonderful.

ChessieFL · 17/04/2020 18:14

If narrator is important, why not think about actors whose voices you like and search for them to see what they have narrated? Or look for other books by narrators you have enjoyed.

BeautySamr · 21/04/2020 15:19

Seconded the Martian!

They also have loads of free audible originals which are great!

Not fiction but if you loved the serial podcast, West Cork is amazeballs too!

station 11
anything by Liane Mority

SweetRuby · 21/04/2020 15:54

I just finished the Murderers son by Joy Ellis, it's narrated by Richard Armitage. I also enjoyed listening to Fiona Bartons books. I agree the narrator is important. I struggle with some of the American narrators, it took me a while to get into the Couple next door because of the way it was read. Listening to Heidi Perks book Now you see her, which isn't bad.

MaidenMotherCrone · 21/04/2020 16:06

I'm thoroughly enjoying all the Disc World books. The unabridged ones though otherwise they're too short.

RightOnTheEdge · 30/04/2020 13:43

I really enjoyed the Strike books they are well narrated and I liked the voice.

I have been listening to the Shetland series. Kenny Blyth has a very relaxing voice and I loved the accents.

mackerella · 01/05/2020 15:44

I've listened to a couple of books narrated by Julian Rhind-Tutt and he's brilliant - good at differentiating the characters vocally and reading in an intelligent way.

maldivemoment · 01/05/2020 15:45

Michelle Obama; Becoming.
She narrates it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Imnoturigeller · 01/05/2020 15:48

Yes definitely to strike books and becoming by Michelle obama
I personally didn’t mind the narration of the liane Moriarty ones but I reckon some may find it grating. They are good stories though.

Sunnywaves · 12/05/2020 09:24

I've just finished The Rosie Project. Really enjoyed it, recommend it.

Vitaceae · 12/05/2020 11:41

I listened to This Green and Pleasant Land by Ayisha Malik. The narrator, Rita Sharma, is very good. I really enjoyed it.

alterego2 · 13/05/2020 17:02

I listened to Good Omens read by Martin Jarvis recently - thought he was exceptionally good.

Second Julian Rhind-Tutt - I listened to We are Legion, We are Bob (had no idea what it would be about but I loved the title) and that was great.

Also, if you enjoyed Rivers of London the same actor has done the Wizard of Earthsea, so you might like that. (Disclaimer, I've got it but not listened to it yet. Busy with The Silent Patient at the moment.)

Lucyslampost · 15/05/2020 14:30

I also loved Becoming. It was absolutely wonderful.

I loved Circe, for the narration and the book. Also the Strike books, and the Wolf Hall trilogy.

FuckYouCovid · 15/05/2020 14:52

I read the Martian and have seen it loads of times.. might get it on audible! Such a good book!

I'm currently listening to Stewart MacBride - the Logan series. Love them. Gritty thrillers and I love the narrator.

RenegadeMrs · 15/05/2020 15:44

Oh, I've read and enjoyed all your list!

If you enjoyed Ready Player One, try Snowcrash by Neal Stephenson. Similar virtual reality setting but different enough to be, well, different!

If you fancy some adult sci-fi I can recommend trying Leviathan Wakes by James Corey, or some easier YA sci-fi the Skyward book by Brandon Sanderson (actually any Brandon Sanderson gets my vote).

Having said that, the narrators of some of the above have very American accents. I don't mind, but if you are picky about narrators you might.

If you like police procedurals I really enjoyed Faithful Place by Tana French and thought the narator was good on that one.

Also a further yes to the Strike books and Becoming by Michelle Obama.

ShakeItOff2000 · 17/05/2020 13:02

I love listening to audiobooks and have enjoyed the following fiction:

The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell
All Quiet on the Western Front.
The Colour Purple narrated by Alice Walker
The Silence of the Girls, Pat Barker
Tess of the D’Urbevilles, Thomas Hardy
Jamaica Inn, Daphne du Maurier
Home Fire, Kamila Shamsie
Pachinko, Min Jin Lee

I would also second Circe, as suggested above.
