I'm looking for books that really draw the reader into the action and that are really tense. Have already read and enjoyed e.g.

S.K. Tremayne: The Assistant
Nicola Moriarty: The Ex-girlfriend
S.J.I. Holliday: Violet
S.E. Lynes: The Lies we Hide
Lisa Stone: The Doctor

Thank you!

Into the Darkest Corner, as mentioned.
Also 'Almost Love' by Louise O'Neill

I Let You Go by Claire MackIntosh.

It is superb and a twist which is astonishing. I read it in one sitting.

Also a Marian Keyes book - This Charming Man? Something like that.

The Woman Who Walked Into Doors by Roddy Doyle

rc22 · 22/02/2020 23:35

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Before I go to Sleep by SJ Watson

Gone without a trace, written by Mary Torjussen. Great plot and twist.

Just finished Into The Darkest Corner. Horrifying but compelling. Read it with my heart pumping. So thanks for that!

The mountain in my shoe by Louise Beech

Also the proposal by S E Lynes

PopcornAndWine · 26/02/2020 15:14

@hidingmystatus yes the Marian Keyes book you are thinking of is This Charming Man. I think that book should be compulsory reading for anyone who thinks Christian Grey-type characters are romantic!

hidingmystatus · 26/02/2020 15:24

Indeed. It's horrifying (just like abuse really is).

Standrewsschool · 20/03/2020 05:01

Girl on the Train has a stalker I sh element to it

Standrewsschool · 20/03/2020 05:02

Stalker-ish

Justsaynonow · 20/03/2020 05:09

Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen. I read it years ago and it's the first book that came to mind when I saw the thread title.

The Keeper by Jessica Moor

Utterly compelling

I can't remember the name but the male lead was a policeman and the book starts with a nameless man watching his girlfriend did in a a ditch. Hoping someone can recognise this.

Another one for Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris. Read it in 2 days. And it's chilling but doesn't have violent gory descriptions like so many books these days!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 11/04/2020 01:49

Also I to the Darkest Corner - blew me away! I am even contacted the author on her Facebook page to say how accurate her portrayal was whilst being respectful to victims and she sent me a really lovely reply

The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton. She loves her airline pilot ex-boyfriend so much that she becomes an air hostess .......

Redyellowpink · 12/04/2020 08:12

First Love by Gwendoline Riley

Redyellowpink · 12/04/2020 08:13
