Any recommendations for historical fiction set in Georgian times? That's all really - thanks in advance.

Georgette Heyerdahl!

Bloody autocorrect - Heyer!

Thanks Weebarra; I looked up some of her novels on Amazon and they looked, well, a little cheesy judging by their covers! Are they still a good read? Quite well written?

They are indeed cheesy! But quite good. I'd recommend The Grand Sophy.

also Norah Lofts. Her writing covers several periods, but several are set in this period - The Brittle Glass for example. She's my favourite historical novelist.

Georgette Heyer and also Winston Graham's Poldark books, which span the 18th and early 19th Cs. Can't recommend these books highly enough - gripping, tragic, funny and beautifully written.

Or what about Jane Austen?

The Aubrey-Maturin novels by Patrick O’Brian are all set during the Napoleonic Wars and are AMAZING.

I worked in publishing for years and georgette heyer was surprisingly high on many editors must-read list. I love them. Light entertainment can be clever and funny, weirdly we all accept this about tv and film but not always books.

Have you read Jane austen though?

I love Heyer.

I recently got into the Captain Lacey mysteries.
