Romance novel for elderly Nanna

Hi, I'm looking for books for my Nanna for Christmas. She's almost 90. She likes wartime romance stories, I've had a quick Google but just wondered if anyone has any good recommendations, especially in large print and paperback format 😊

Do you live near her? The local library would have large print novels. They're hard to get hold of otherwise.

Hi, yes I do, I'll have a look!

Also worth asking at the library if they have any volunteers that visit the elderly. We have one very dear lady that visits MIL monthly with a pile of wartime romances, and Danielle Steele novels from the library.

My elderly mum grew up in Liverpool so particularly enjoys this type of book set there. Authors like Katie Flynn, Lyn Andrews, Helen Forrester, Maureen Lee, Annie Groves.

The East End is also another popular setting for wartime romances. It might be worth looking to see if there is anything based in where she is from. The is a website called Mappit that lets you search for books set in a particular place.

I've just finished Mariana by Monica Dickens, which was written during the war. I absolutely loved it - she is a brilliant writer. It's about the late childhood, teenage years and early adult life of a woman from London, and her first romances, and the first time she finds true love.

Has she read any of Lilian Harry's novels? They are my go-to for WWII and 50s easy peasy reads. Lilian Harry wrote a whole WWII series set in a street called April Grove - the first one is called Goodbye Sweetheart. But high risk that she's read them already tbh. I like the postwar Burracombe series as well, starting with The Bells at Burracombe.

The Cazalet Chronicles by Elizabeth Jane Howard - not sure about large print - but audio book available - just fantastic - but agree with previous poster re library and large print. There was a radio version read by Penelope Wilton I think - not sure if available in I player etc

Thank you so much, I'll have a chat with her and try find out what she's already read 😊

Look up Catherine Bowness novels on Amazon! They're on Kindle but also print and the print editions have quite large font. Very nice, gentle, funny and well written romance books.

Disclaimer - I do know Catherine Bowness in RL (I promise I'm not her though!) but think I'm still allowed to recommend her.

I guess a Georgette Heyer one would fit the bill? Even my spinster aunt is ol with those (no sex!!)
