I was not sure I would enjoy this but am nearly at the end of it!

I don't suppose Moth's 'friend', the women at the job centre/Universal Credit/ dreadful dog woman are reading it. If they are, I expect they still feel justified in their behaviours. Made me very angry for the couple!

This was a great book! Made me want to walk the south coast path in the U.K. and see Devon, Cornwall, & Dorset? (Not sure remembering correctly).
I thought it was so lovely when they got the offer of a place to rent right on the path.
I felt really sad at the start when they lost their farm in Wales on a technicality! You always hear about criminals getting off on technicalities but I’d never even thought it could go the other way and innocent people lose in court due to a technicality.

I really didn't like it at all. Thought the writing was quite stodgy and heavy. It felts like facts were crowbarred in, along with some quite patronising speeches.

I did feel sorry for the couple, but as a book felt it wasn't that great. Seems I'm in the minority though!

I loved it so much, the story carried me away!

DH agreed with you though Gentleman.... :)

Now that's where I differ. I like that she came out with some facts. I really think I got to 'know' them. It was also interesting how people reacted to them when they heard they were homeless. I was homeless for a short while but ordinary people were not mean to me like they were to them, only 'authority' moving me on from bus stations etc. Though to be fair I did not 'look' homeless.

Some people were kind to them but others.... I hope Moth is still doing ok. At the end of the book he was still alive...

I enjoyed it - the walk was great, and I felt sorry for them, but they were unbelievably naïve.

RoyalCorgi · 12/09/2019 18:55

I liked it a lot. I thought it was really well-written and also inspirational, in the sense that it inspired me to think, I will never ever ever do that walk.

But good on them. I'm glad things worked out for them in the end. I'd like to know whether Moth is his real name.

So sorry for the couple with so many bad things happening all at once. It won the Christopher Bland Prize (a prize to encourage older writers)

I didn't expect to enjoy it but was drawn in and couldn't put it down. I was glad it had a happy ending.
