I'm off on holiday on Wednesday, 7 hours of travelling each way. Please recommend me some audiobooks to help pass the time!

I'm looking for lighthearted/humorous and with a decent story. Laugh-out-loud funny would be great.

I'm not usually into romances as I find them predictable and other people's love lives don't really interest me - besides which more often than not the woman ends up with a right dick, and I just want to tell them to get some self respect!

I make an exception for Sophie Kinsella because her books are funny, light (no deaths!) and easy to listen too (I get easily confused and can't follow books that have 14000 characters) but they usually have an interesting story too.

I have NO interest in Sci-fi, mystery or thrillers.

Really looking for fiction, not autobiographies or whatever.

I like children's and young adult books, as long as they aren't too bland and can keep my attention.

I don't like heavy themes - no rape or murder, and no animals dying!

They're allowed to be thought provoking/moving but only if they end well!

Thanks!

Would the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy be your sort of thing? I've just listened to the final one as an audiobook & really enjoyed it, the reading was excellent.

Bookmarking as I've just signed up for an Audible subscription....

No good recommendations along the lines you suggest yet, but I did love Jon Robson's 'The Psycopath test' - I found it very funny and thought provoking.

I've just finished Anericanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which I loved. It's an observational novel about Ifemelu, a young Nigerian woman who emigrates to America for college. The narration is fabulous, and really enhanced it for me.

I've just finished 'The Hearts Invisible Furies' by John Boyd and it's absolutely beautiful and quite amazing book. I read/listen to A LOT of books and read all kinds of genres and can't quite remember what made me use my Audible credit on this book but my god I'm so glad I did. It's lengthy so you'll get your monies worth too. It follows the story of a lad in Dublin quite literally from birth to death - and deals with all his travels and relationships in between. The characters are hilarious and the narrator on Audible played each character very well indeed (irish accent). Look up on goodreads for reviews and synopsis of the book but I can't recommend it enough! Hilarious at times, sad at others and warm and fuzzy too.

I think you'd like Rachel Joyce OP, and possibly also Dear Mrs Byrd.
