Light and entertaining please.

I’ve enjoyed Caitlin Moran, Louise Weiner and the why mummy drinks books on recent trips.

You might like this. It is not a huge book. If you don't mind quirky it will probably make you smile. I loved it. It is one of 'Our' book club books.

I'm late to the game with this but I am finally reading Michelle Obama's Becoming
Loving it.

EarringsandLipstick · 18/07/2019 13:19

or how about David Nicholl's new book Sweet Sorrow

EarringsandLipstick · 18/07/2019 13:20

Sorry I realised I may have missed the 'light' part with 'Becoming' but I think it hits the 'entertaining' bit!

RJnomore1 · 18/07/2019 13:25

Nconvenience store woman is now on my list thanks.

I’ve actually read becoming and loved it.

I am reading The Prison Doctor by Amanda Brown at the moment and obviously loved Adam Kay's this is going to hurt.

Yearinyearout · 24/07/2019 20:32

Eleanor oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman. Loved it

drspouse · 24/07/2019 20:45

You might like Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. For a feminist data book, it's really funny!

MontyBowJangles · 08/08/2019 16:34

The new Gill Sims book is good, finished it last week. Other books I've enjoyed this year:

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
A Man Called Ove
Calling Major Tom
Apple Tree Yard
This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay

Bumping this in case there are any more recommendations as I’m looking for some light holidays reads too.

hidingmystatus · 11/08/2019 17:07

Um, depends what you like, @glittertissues !
But: light, fun sci-fi - anything by Lois McMaster Bujold
Feminist dystopian near-future: Sheri Tepper
Sci-fi: Becky Chambers, Ann Leckie
Crime with a dash of romance: JD Robb, SR Garrae
Straight crime: Henning Mankell, Tess Gerritsen, LJ Ross
Crime with magic: Ben Aaronovitch
Paranormal romance: Patricia Briggs, Thea Harrison, Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews.

hidingmystatus · 11/08/2019 17:08

Oh, and Terry Pratchett. How could I forget him!

MrsTumbletap · 11/08/2019 17:09

This was a good holiday read, recommended by a friend and I don't usually read fiction but it was good.

Can someone recommend a book or two for my holidays?
Horehound · 11/08/2019 17:39

I have seen people raving about the cows. That's next on my list.
I just finished "the holiday" by t.m Logan which id say is deffo a holiday light read.

AnneKipanki · 12/08/2019 13:53

F. Scott Fitzgerald , short stories.

Curatorjohn · 28/08/2019 22:26

The School Run by Helen Whitaker is a funny look at parenting today with a sexy vicar to boot!

cosycableknit · 29/08/2019 08:37

Mum's on Strike by Laura Kemp - "It was just a squashed grape on the kitchen floor. Hardly a reason to get upset, right?...So when her husband deliberately steps over the grape because it’s ‘her responsibility’ to run the house, it tips her over the edge" - this book made me laugh Grin

The Great Ex-Scape by Jo Watson

tobee · 29/08/2019 14:43

Quite a lot of F Scott Fitzgerald short stories don't fit into "light" in my book! Grin They're a great read but quite heavy plots, as in depressing subject matter.

BelfortGabbz · 29/08/2019 14:47

Yes Man by Danny Wallace.

Recommended it lots of times and every person has thanked me.
Very funny and thought provoking.
