Hi. Just seen some Puffin Posts on ebay.

ArcticRoll · 06/09/2007 19:49

Wow blast from the past.
margoand gerry- I had those 'From the library of..' stickers too and was very excited.
Gosh what an innocent age; can't imagine my dc getting excited about such things- from Puffin Club to Club Penguin.

DumbledoresGirl · 06/09/2007 19:58

I was a member, along with my brother and sister and I remember (and must still have in some books) the "from the library of" stickers.

I remember we received a magazine and badges but apart from that, my only memory is going to some Puffin Club convention in London where you could meet authors and I met an elderly woman whose name escapes me but she wrote stories about a little old lady who lived with her cats. Anyone got a clue which books I am talking about?

Hello all of you with Puffin Post nostalgia: I'm reviving this thread because they're re-launching Puffin Post!

Hurrah!

Can't stay online now, but wanted to share the news...

Ahhhhh yes Puffin Post - my big sister subscribed and I was in the magazine for the younger readers - was it called The Egg??

mrsbabookaloo · 22/09/2008 22:38

Oh goody. I thought I was alone and nobody cared about it except me.

FlossCampi · 27/09/2008 00:18

hurrah - thank you for the link, I saw this in the Bookseller and it implied that the pre-launch offer was going to be via the Book People's mailing list only (which I'm on too, I'm just very impatient).

twilightzonerwitch · 27/09/2008 00:20

wahey!

I once one a competition in Puffin Post- drew a picture of my family and won a HUGE box of pens, crayons, pencils and art materials.

Dd will be getting a subscription.

Remember Fat Puffin anyone?
I had loads of fat puffin footprints from a Christmas Party in Ilkley where we met William Mayne - I stuck them all round my bedroom!

nooka · 28/09/2008 20:58

We all belonged to Puffin club, but then most of the best children's books were Puffins then. We went to the summer events (fab, full of loads and loads of kids doing very educational things and having a whale of a time) I also went on a Colony Holiday, and it really was fab (and I was the sort of kid who always had her nose in a book because it was safe there). I never won anything though My big sister did however she was actually quite artistic...

nooka · 28/09/2008 21:01

I can't see how the worldwide mark up can be justified though. I might ask my mum to subscribe for the children and then send it on to us though.

elkiedee · 28/09/2008 21:22

Wow. DS is only 16 months old though, think I might have to subscribe for myself!

I also had a subscription for some years to an American children's book magazine called Cricket which was wonderful (think initially it was in the UK as well).

MamaHobgoblin · 03/10/2008 16:00

Oooh! Puffin Club. Me and my brother were members. We both won something - I got a puffin chess set and book (still can't play chess to save my life ) but can't remember what won it!
We went to a Puffin Club event once - all v arty and crafty, and I met the illustrator Jan Pienowski who signed my Joan Aitken book with a little silouette mouse! Still treasure it.

Ah...Fat Puffin! /nostalgia.
