He loves Dig Dig Digging and Choo Choo Clickety Clack, and really listens to the Gruffalo, Monkey Puzzle and Squash and a Squeeze though I thought these would have been too old for him. He's 2 in 2 weeks.
Should I get him some more Julia Donaldsons? I was in Borders the other day but his age group wasn't very well catered for, couldn't get much inspiration. I've had a look at Each Peach Pear Plum but I don't think he'd be "grasped" by that.

Somebody help me, he really loves books so I want to encourage that even more.

Pants and More Pants, by Giles Andreae and Nick Sharratt. Priceless!

Thinkstoomuch · 21/07/2007 21:03

My DS (2.1yrs) loves all those, plus
How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague
The Fantastic Mr Wani by Kanako Usui
Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson

becaroo · 21/07/2007 21:05

How about "We're going on a bear hunt" by Michael Rosen? My ds LOVES it and has done for some time.

My ds also loves the Mr Duck series by Jez Albrough - "Duck in a Truck" is his favourite at the moment.

Also "The very hungry caterpillar" and "The bad tempered ladybird" by Eric Carle for when he is a bit older.

With my ds, I find books about trucks, tractors, trains and planes go down well - especially ones that rhyme. Try the series by Ant Mitton and David Parker.

bozza · 21/07/2007 21:07

Yes I would get more of the Donaldson books. We have them all. Also "Peace at last" and "Whatever next" both my Jill Murphy were very good and popular with my two at that age. We also like "the tiger who came to tea" and "we're going on bear hunt".

bozza · 21/07/2007 21:07

And I like hairymclairy.

ThursdayNext · 21/07/2007 21:34

More votes for the tiger who came to tea, We're going on a bear hunt, Hungry caterpillar and Peace at last
Can't say I really like hairymclary, nor does DS
DS 2.1 really likes Each Peach Pear Plum, and the other Janet and Allan Ahlberg books, The Baby's Catalogue and we always read Peepo at bedtime. Great, detailed illustrations, there's always something new to look at for toddlers and grown ups
Favorite Julia Donaldson at the moment is Room on the Broom
Where's My Teddy, Jez Alborough
There's a series of books by Sarah Garland that I love, called things like Going Swimming, Going to Playschool, Having a Picnic. I have been getting them from the library and have bought a few second hand as they are currently out of print, but I think they are reissuing them soon. Keep an eye out for them, lovely books

luckylady74 · 21/07/2007 21:40

fix it duck from the duck in the truck series - my ds2 believes he is fix it duck and has the plastic hammer to prove it!

berolina · 21/07/2007 21:43

ds is 2.2 and adores Dr. Seuss. Had to read him The Cat in the Hat FOUR times this afternoon. One Fish, Two Fish... is also a favourite. They're pretty long books but he really sits through them enthralled. He's a fan of Mog (Judith Kerr). He also enjoys the Donaldsons - The Snail and the Whale is a favourite. And the Ahlbergs - especially Peepo. He likes the Mr. men too and will bring me one after the other - I usually 'abridge' them though.

BadKreacher · 21/07/2007 21:50

I can't remember the author but 'Rumble in the Jungle' and 'Giraffes can't dance' were popular here at that age. I second 'we are going on a bear hunt' its great for acting on a wet day

mazzystar · 21/07/2007 21:56

Eric Carle did a lot of other lovely books - the very busy spider, the lonely firefly and the quiet cricket, ds enjoying these

other favourites

The Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram

The little Mole who knew it was none of his business

MrsScavo · 21/07/2007 22:01

Really, try Each Peach Pear Plum. DS1 is very car orientated, but we wore that book out. We're on our 2nd copy, and it looks as if we might need a 3rd. At around 2 years, DS1 made me read it 30 times in a row. On second thoughts, you might not want it!

TooTicky · 21/07/2007 22:02

Oh yes, another vote for the Mole who Knew it was none of his Business. Dd2 (just 2) adores it.

Tatties · 21/07/2007 22:07

Ds is 2.3 and loves the following:

The Tiger Who Came to Tea (have this on cd too which is great)
The Big Alfie Out of Doors Storybook (any Alfie books actually)
Katie Morag Delivers the Mail
The Little Red Train books (by Bernard Blathwayt)
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Hairy Maclary

MrsScavo · 21/07/2007 22:09

I must have read it a thousand times, and I'm still not bored of The Tiger Who Camae To Tea.

MrsScavo · 21/07/2007 22:12

How do Dinosaurs say Good Night? Is great for bed time. My All time favourite is The Baby Who Wouldn't go to bed, by.... some one help me out here... the same person who wrote Pumkin Soup....

TranquilaManana · 21/07/2007 22:15

little cloud by eric carle. read it really slowly... is a lovely book for that age.

also, for bedtime, also read slowly; husherbye byt john birningham.

MrsScavo · 21/07/2007 22:20

Oi, Get Of Our Train! by John B. DS loved this book when he was 2, and it's been a huge hit with every 2 year old boy I've given it to. It has a great environmental message, too.

ScottishMummy · 21/07/2007 22:22

harry and dinosaurs.. any harry books
tiger who came to tea
gruffalo
hairy mclairy

mazzystar · 21/07/2007 22:30

bramblina · 21/07/2007 23:14

Thank you everybody.

We have Tiger who came to tea which ds does like, when Sophie is standing on the chair feeding the tiger, he points and says "dangerous"!
MrsScavo I may just go for the EPPP and take a chance then, on your recommendation!
A few have been mentioned I've never heard of which is great, thanks, Peepo is one which everyone mentions but I have never seen them!

And how could I have forgottne about Dr Zeuss Green eggs and Ham I am.......I'm off to Amazon!

Thanks everybody.

Keep adding if you wish...

aww nice

SlightlyMadSpider · 21/07/2007 23:24

Try theBook People or Red House publishing (much cheaper than Amazon)

LoonyLyraLovegood · 21/07/2007 23:25

Another vote for Green Eggs and Ham.
My DS2 loved Peepo! and Each Peach Pear Plum. He was also fascinated by the Baby's Catalogue which just has lots of pictures of things and people doing everyday tasks like cooking breakfast and brushing teeth, but no words. He'd sit and look at it for hours.

LoonyLyraLovegood · 21/07/2007 23:26

Both my boys also love the Charlie and Lola books and the Peppa Pig board books.

SlightlyMadSpider · 21/07/2007 23:27

3 Dr Suess books for £7
