Books picked up at fete

Just picked up 6 new books at the local fete. I chose by titles I had heard of, authors I have read previously and also I judged a few by their cover. The books I got were
The Rosie project - Graeme Simson
The tea planters wife - Dinah Jefferies
East of the sun- Julia Gregson
The moment- Douglas Kennedy
The help- Kathryn Stockett
The stars are fire - Anita Shreve.
Any comments or reviews on what any of these books are look good or bad would be most appreciated. Thanks

The Help is a brilliant book. All about the relationships between wealthy white families and their black “help” in the Deep South. It’s been made into a film as well.

The Rosie Project divided people a bit but I enjoyed it - a funny quirky easy read. There’s one sequel and another coming out I think.

I haven’t read the others, but I’ve never read a bad Anna Shreve book.

I love a good fete/charity shop haul!

I think you got a fine haul there. Enough to see you through your holidays. I loved The Rosie Project. And any Douglas Kennedy while not brilliant, l feel, has an engrossing story which is perfect for holidays. I have his new one lined up already for this year.

A great haul OP. I have read them all except the Julia Gregson, and enjoyed them. They are all very different.

I read East of the Sun a couple of years ago. It's set in Bombay in the time of the Raj .It was an enjoyable read but I like books dealing with India.

Thanks for your replies looks like I made some good choices. Need to finish Scotland street number 3 and then start the goldfinch as I have borrowed it from a friend before I start any of the fete books so could be a while yet!!

I've read the Dinah Jeffries one - it was good. Interesting to learn about the life of ex-pats out there and how the workers were treated.
