I am in need of a good laugh!

Any good suggestions for a funny book?

I recently read 'This is Going to Hurt' which was fab! But need a new recommended read...

l'm with Bittern11. Anything Bill Bryson, but especially The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. l wouldn't dare read it on a train.

Nancy Mitford - The Pursuit of Love & Love in a Cold Climate
Stella Gibbons - Cold Comfort Farm
Caitlin Moran - How to Build A Girl
Dear Lupin - Roger Mortimer

And of course - the Adrian Mole books!

Red Dwarf. Maybe it was a "right time, right place" thing but someone left me a copy on their way to somewhere else- they stayed overnight with me. I had been reading Dickens before hand and needed a change. Some shit was going down too.
I nearly pee-ed myself laughing when I read it.

Second a pp's recommendation of The Tent, the Bucket and Me. Very very funny.

TeaMeBasil · 04/05/2019 09:56

Another for The Tent, The Bucket and Me! Great fun 😄

Nick Spalding books, especially the earlier ones

Love, Nina was dire. I really wanted to like it but it was dreadfully dull.

Sandi Toksvig the chain of curiosity
Adam Fletcher very British problems
Hugh Dennis Britty Britty bang bang - don't read this on a train
Dara O'briain - tickling the English

Ha! I came on this thread to recommend that. I have been re-reading it this week having read it once before. Even second time round I was guffawing at things I had forgotten about. DD and DH also love it too.

BTW - to other fans of "The Tent, The Bucket and Me" - Emma Kennedy has written another book of travel memoirs called "I Left Mt Tent in San Francisco." However, I cannot say that I recommend it. I was glad I had borrowed it from the library rather than bought it IYSWIM. I suspect her publisher said, after Tent & Bucket, "Oh that was great have you got any more funny stories?", hence this book. Not in the same league as her first book at all - very thin material.

BreconBeBuggered · 09/05/2019 19:30

I thought it was okay, but as a follow-up, it's not in the same league.

MargotMoon · 09/05/2019 19:36

Also just finished The Tent, The Bucket...(VERY FUNNY) and thanks to PP for the warning not to bother with the follow up!
