If I like Lisa Jewell who else would you recommend?

I love Lisa Jewell, I'm also a fan of Robert Brynzda and Tana French (her first few, anyway.) Not a fan of Liane Moriarty or anything remotely resembling "chick-lit". Can anyone recommend authors I may like? I've just finished "Watching You" and I'm bereft!

I love reading Lisa Jewell and have read most of the books by Marian Keyes & Jo Jo Moyles .

AppleReader · 26/02/2019 05:57

You might like Patrick Gale.

Erin Kelly's books are very good. Also anything by Eve Chase.

elkiedee · 27/02/2019 10:58

Have you read all of Lisa Jewell's work? I haven't yet read Watching You though I have a copy but my impression is that her more recent work is more crime oriented - certainly her last 4 books - I've read The Girls. I've enjoyed a lot of her early books but would think they are actually a bit chick lit.

I would recommend any of the 3 books by Alex Marwood, and books by Laura Wilson (both historical and contemporary settings) and Denise Mina.

Thanks everyone, and yes, elkiedee it's the crime ones I really like.

Worth trying Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain?
I know you said you didn't like Liane Moriaty but I'm reading her Nine Perfect Strangers now and it's pretty good.
Lisa Jewell has definitely veered more towards psychological thrillers in recent books. I've loved her last few but read one of her early ones, The House on Dream Street, and didn't enjoy it. I do like some chick lit but that was just too fluffy.

Papergirl1968 · 28/02/2019 22:43

Sorry, 31 Dream Street not The House on Dream Street.

I like Lisa Jewell’s recent books too OP. Have a look at Cath Staincliffe. I have just read a couple of hers and really enjoyed them. Fear of Falling is a story about a difficult adoption, which was fairly harrowing tbh. I am just reading The Girl in the Green Dress, about the murder of a transgender teenager.

duplodancer · 02/03/2019 08:57

Sophie Hannah would fit the bill. Start with Little Face.

Ooh yes Louise Candlish. Our House.
Really gripping, and a proper twist at the end.

Papergirl1968 · 04/03/2019 18:40

Dorothy Koomson is worth a try too.
