I expect the book will be fine pruners - as long as you don't have to look at David Baddiel's face or listen to him speak...
There's a wonderful Persephone Press book (get it off t'interweb), Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. That will be balm to your thwarted soul

bagsundereyes · 07/07/2007 10:59

was the baddiel one called the secret purposes? had this from the library and it was suprisingly good. don't be put off if you've read either of his first two dick-lit novels- this is a much more sensitive affair, and far better written.

Tatties · 07/07/2007 19:53

Oi I like David Baddiel's dick-lit

So what did you get then Pruni? This thread motivated me to get some Jonathan Coe and Sarah Waters books out of the library today!

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:54

David Baddiel

I have been FAR too jealous to look at this thread let alone read it

Tatties · 07/07/2007 19:56

What is wrong with David Baddiel?

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:57

Where should I start?

policywonk · 07/07/2007 20:01

Watcher get watcher get Pruners

Tatties · 07/07/2007 20:03

Ok, so do you just not like him or has he done something like reeeaaallly bad? Have I committed a big faux-pas by saying I like his books?

But if it's just me with my weird taste again I can handle that

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 20:24

I just can't stand that laddish crap

but I seem to be being rather tetchy around the board tonight

am going out for bike ride soon, apologies in the mean time

Tatties · 07/07/2007 20:52

Ah you see I don't think I have really seen him doing any of the laddish crap. One of his books has a Gabriel in it and I really like that name so he must be ok

Oh

Do you want to borrow a David Baddiel book?

policywonk · 07/07/2007 20:55

Shame. Make sure you get your turn tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 21:47

hoxtonchick · 08/07/2007 08:44

love David Lodge too !

MintyDixCharrington · 08/07/2007 08:47

I just read the Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfeld, which I enjoyed. I also liked Faulkes' Human Traces, and Shadow of the Wind (Carlos Ruiz Zafon). I've read quite a lot of other books recently which I can't really recommend, those three are the ones I can think of at the mo

Oh and also William Boyd's Unless - not a natural Boyd fan but I thought this was great

there's a new Kate Atkinson coming out too - just noticed it on back of a newspaper bit but can't find it now.
I'd recommend Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City books.

doughnuts · 08/07/2007 08:50

oh, just noticed the Crow Road - fab ! Wasp Factory great too. How about Patrick Gale ?

MintyDixCharrington · 08/07/2007 08:51
