I am looking for ideas for a book club book. We're a group of middle aged women and I want something like The Children's Act where there are different elements to the story to discuss, moral, ethical, emotional etc.

Any suggestions?

We are currently reading Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey with my book club, which will hopefully spark some good discussion

Under the Skin by Michael Faber.
I picked it up on the basis of several people posting about in on MN, a while ago.
Very thought provoking.

The Slap always provokes a lot of reaction

We need to talk about Kevin provoked a huge amount of discussion in ours, as did the poisonwood bible

Jodi Picoult definitely, all of her stories have a moral/ethical dilemma.

I recommend The Storyteller to start.

Thanks all, I haven't read any of the suggestions so will have a look. I am not choosing the next book but the one after that so probably March.

Try What's Left Unsaid by Deborah Stone. Lots to discuss in terms of secrets and lies within a family

RedForShort · 31/01/2019 18:27

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Wells.

Nonfiction but lots of to discuss.

Storminateacup74 · 01/02/2019 22:29

The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry.

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent - lots to think about in terms of culpability, sympathy for the perpetrator of a crime, life in rural, confined conditions. And not too long!

AdventureTravelDreamer · 02/02/2019 12:01

Thanks for all the suggestions Smile

I've read the unlikely pilgrimage of Harold fry a couple of years ago and I think others may have too.

I read the good people by Hannah Kent but haven't read burial rites, though I have heard good reviews so will have a look at that and the others suggested too.
