Book about parenting teenagers

I don't have many clues to identify this, but I was sitting next to someone on the tube recently who was reading a kindle book about teenagers and why they behave the way they do, tips on how to deal with stroppiness, mood swings, unreasonableness, etc. I didn't want to admit to reading over her shoulder, so didn't ask the title. I've looked on Amazon and there are dozens of books on this topic - can anyone recommend one?

One of the most famous and good ones is Blame My Brain by Nicola Morgan. It's widely recommended.

I quite like Positive Parenting for Teens, because I really love and trust that way of parenting, and it's helped me since DC were toddlers. But I don;t think the teen book is especially great, just a rehash of their usual stuff. Still worth reading, though.

Could it have been Get out of my life!?

robinwasntred · 07/01/2019 22:18

JiltedJohnsJulie I think that might be it. I think the one I saw on the train had quotes from parents like this one does. I'm going to order a copy.

Thanks also OneStepMoreFun - I'll look at those as well. Is this the Positive Parenting for Teens one? www.amazon.co.uk/Positive-Discipline-Teenagers-Revised-3Rd/dp/0770436552/?tag=mumsnetforum-21

I used to like a book called Raising Happy Children when my kids were younger, but I've never read a book about teens - eldest is 18 now so maybe I've left it a bit late Grin.

I found Get Out of My Life very helpful with teens, and also Blame My Brain.

I thought it might be as it’s come recommended in the Teenage Section regularly. She was probably a MNer Grin

Ha ha, probably - I should have started typing my question as I read over her shoulder and seen what happened. It wasn't you was it? Grin

One of the best is Get out of my life, but first take me and Alex into town!

I love it because it is very laid back. Didn't agree with it all, but found it helpful.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/01/2019 22:03

No, not me this time. Although I have been meaning to read it. Must add it to the “too read” list Smile

If it was a hardback, it's quite likely to be this one which was published and won a prize last year- Inventing ourselves- The secret life of the teenage brain by Sarah-Jayne Blackmore. It's vv good.

That one looks interesting too. I'm reading Get Out of My Life at the moment and I think it was probably the book I saw on the train, but will add this to my list.
