Decent rhyming books for kids?

Ds is autistic so can't 'read' as such but he loves a good book.
Favourites at the moment are Green eggs and Ham and Pants and I'm getting bored of them every night!
Can anyone recommend a good book with lots of colourful pictures, lots of rhyming and not too long?
Ds is 5 but need to think along the lines of older toddler/young child.
Cheers muchly!

I'm seriously thinking of sending it to you. It's on my iPod to keep ds quiet(ish) when we are out.

And the Ahlberg's Each Peach Pear Plum:

'Each peach pear plum
I spy Tom Thumb
Tom Thumb in the cupboard
I spy Mother Hubbard
Mother Hubbard on the stairs
I spy the Three Bears...'

and my youngest (who had this off by heart at age 2) is now 14yrs! That really is a lasting impression!

We loved 'This is the Bear', too.

My DD - aged 7 months - seems to enjoy rhyming books as well, so I have been searching the library high and low to find new ones. In addition to the ones already listed, I recommend

Noisy Poems - collected by Jill Bennett (very fun and suitable for even young babies)

Chanting Rhymes - by John Foster and Carol Thompson (in fact, any book with John Foster's name attached is pretty good)

Bear Snores On - Karma Wilson. Very basic story, told in rhyme, would be lovely for a toddler.

Boom, Baby, Boom, Boom - Margaret Mahy - a book where children can join in with the sounds that Mummy makes as she bashes her drums

The Wobble Bear series by Ian Whybrow - I love these

It's Heaven Having You - Giles Andreae - a lovely book, with a very touching rhyme.

Hope this helps, let us know which ones you try out and what your DS makes of them

I've quickly flicked through this thread and can't see Hilaire Belloc's Cautionary Tales.
They include Matilda Who Told Lies And Was Burned to Death. Lovely!

Peepo - Janet and Allan Alberg; it's lovely and the pictures are so detailed.

Santa's Kiwi Holiday - Maria Farrer; not sure how readily available it is here, it was a present from a NZ friend; a really fun read. My dd knows the rhyming words and 'reads' the book to herself when she thinks no-one is watching (she'll be 2 in August).

Caulifrau - I love Shel Silverstein too, I was given Where the Sidewalk Ends on book and cassette when I was eight and I still read it to this today!

Try Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose and Hippo Has a Hat both by Julia Donaldson with great, bright illustrations by Nick Sharratt (who also did the modernised fairy tales which might rhyme too?). DS loved these books - they're funny and the illustrations are sooo good. Have a look on Amazon.
