I've just read Where the Wild Things Are and the Cat in the Hat to my boys, both of which were childhood favourites when I was tiny.

DH reads the Richard Scarry books to DD from his boyhood, didn't feature in my childhood

admylin · 23/06/2007 20:46

We are re-reading the Laura Ingalls-Wilder little house books. We love them and I read them to them 2 years ago but 2nd time round they're asking more questions, understanding more of course.

Mine have inherited my set of Topsy and Tim books. There's lots of politically incorrect stuff in them, which is great. I also bought them the Mr Men box set at the first opportunity. They're 4 and 3 btw.

Oh mcdreamy DS has my old Richard Scarry books. They are actually quite good for him to read to me now (he is 6).

We also read/have read the following that I read as a child:
Mr Men
Charlie and the CF
Charlie and the GE
James and the GP
Charlotte's Web
Time to go
Various ladybird fairy stories (princess and the pea, little red hen etc) and also various ladybird read-it-yourself books.

Clever Polly & the stupid wolf (dd1 age 7)

I am currently reading Five Children and It to DS1 (5). I'm sure I didn't realise how old fashioned it all is!! He loves it though

tegan · 23/06/2007 21:02

dd2 (3) has had the tiger who came to tea for about 2 months now and I read the first line and she recites it word for word.
Before that it was the gingerbread man.

MarshaBrady · 23/06/2007 21:05

The whole Mr Men series (lovingly bought by grandma and pa)
god i love it, i love the illustrations, the stories
Ds (2) knows about half by name now which makes bedtimes interesting.
Anyone want to share my love for Mr Men books?

MillyMollyMandy.

Not really my favourites but certainly one of my mum's! I think the Mary Plain stories might be next - I have my mum's copies which are 60 years old!

Shoshable · 24/06/2007 17:59

To DGD age 11, I am reading Little Women

singersgirl · 24/06/2007 18:00

Oh, I loved Mary Plain!

We have been reading:
Gobbolino the Witch's Cat
Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse (my mum says I cried inconsolably when he went blind down the coal mine)
Teddy Robinson
Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf

I started some of these with DS2 (5), but DS1 (8) has decided to come and listen.

Mercy · 24/06/2007 18:08
