I’d like a book to suit the season - any ideas?

I feel like the season has really turned, and I’ve got that winter/cosy/nostalgic vibe. Usually I reread my Georgette Heyers round about now, or some golden age fiction. But I’m up for some new ideas if anyone has any suggestions please? As the thread title says really, and maybe something atmospheric too as a nod to Halloween?!

Thank you for any ideas :)

I've just finished reading The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge. It's YA, not quite my usual genre, but really fancied something spooky and I love a bit of Nordic noir so gave it a go - perfect autumnal read to curl up with: www.amazon.co.uk/Twisted-Tree-Rachel-Burge-ebook/dp/B07B7PFMPX?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters.

Lovely Victoriana, lots of fog and derring-do.

I've nearly finished Ken Follet's A Column of Fire - perfect bunkering-down reading!

How about the new Shardlake novel, 'Tombland' ? It's set during the Tudor period, mostly in Norfolk. It's long, so I'm really going to savour it, by the fire, with a bag of toffee. Perfect !

Oh thank you for the recommendations :).

I’ve read Fingersmith, and that’s exactly the sort of book I’m after. I haven’t read any of the others so just nipping over to Amazon.

Thanks again :)

Wilkie Collins - The Woman in White

Ooh, yes. Gothic horror. Second The Woman in White, also The Monk and Lady Audley’s Secret.

I've just read Witch Hunt by Syd Moore. It's a fictional story about a woman looking into the history of the Essex Witch Trials, so based on true events. I really enjoyed it, really spooky and atmospheric and perfect for Halloween Halloween Smile

I’m reading Alison Goodman’s Lady Helen and the Dark Days Club. Regency setting with demon hunting. Lots of good period detail, good writing and a fun plot.

Another regency fantasy which is great fun is Garth Nix’s Newt’s Emerald. Very light-hearted.
