DD has just expressed an interest in reading a Stephen King book, I remember reading both him and James Herbert avidly from about 13, but he has written a few more since then. Which would be the best one to start with or wait a bit

I love the Jasper Fforde Thursday Next series, nursery crimes good but not quite as engaging.
Definitely recommend, and suitable for her age too - enough violence & adult themes to be grown up and mildly shocking but nothing gory or distasteful! Desperately waiting for the next in his colour series!

I'm not sure about Stephen king at that age. I have a lot of his books but they can still give me the horrors and I'm in my 30s!
I was going to suggest Point Horror like a PP suggested. That was definitely what I was reading at that age, and could be a good precursor to king books in a couple of years.
