I haven't bought her anything new for ages as she has all dd1s old books. There must be some new ones that have come out recently that I am missing?

Have you seen the Melrose and Croc books? DDs love them - they're really elegant. By Emma chichester clark who did the blue kangaroo books.

Enid · 06/06/2007 12:31

They sound good.

Charlie and Lola. The books are wonderful. The Gruffalo woman - Room on the Broom and all those (except they aren't new, are they?)

CountessDracula · 06/06/2007 12:44

dd loves naughty little sister

TooTicky · 06/06/2007 12:46

Tilly Beany books by Annie Dalton are great for reading aloud at this age.
Teddy Robinson? I used to love him!

If she likes pictures with lots of detail and slightly leftfield stories, she might like Wolves by Emily Gravett...

CountessDracula · 06/06/2007 12:48

dd also loves

Wolf Child
Commotion in the Ocean
Giraffes can't dance
Hairy Mclary books
A hilarous goldilcoks one where she gets made into a pie at the end can't remember the name

If she likes cats the Mog stories are lovely, "cat on the hill" (my dd adores cats, his one has a lovely ending that always
brought tears to my eyes(not dd's!)

And recently The princess and the wizard by Julia Donaldson(lovely sparkly drawings and great story), and new one "Eliza and the moonchild", lovely drawings and sweet story about a child who lives on the moon visiting a little girl on earth.

That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown by Cressida Cowell. A must-have for any child.
Also Shirley Hughes is bringing out a new Alfie book next month - Alfie and the Big Boys.
The Olivia books by Ian Falconer float DD3's boat too.

I hate those sodding fairy books. We have 417, all with the same plot.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 19/07/2007 22:59

The lost happy endings by Carol Anne Duffy & Jane Ray

Winnie the Witch?

Enid · 19/07/2007 22:59

A child with taste. DD2 is our Hermione - she even has the Goblet of Fire ballgown. DD3 has long black hair that falls in curtains around her very pale face. Whenever they play Harry Potter she is made to be Snape - but she wants to be Ron!

DS is 4.5 and we are enjoying reading 'Akimbo and the Snakes' by Alexander McCall Smith who wrote the No 1 Detective series. Good to have a story set in Africa for a change after a bout of Roald Dahl.
