Do you count abridged audio books as something you've read?

Hi, I listen to quite a few books, some of them abridged for Book at Bedtime, Book of the week etc. I don't know whether I can say I've read them, put them into my goodreads account.... I know the story, but feel funny saying I've read it. What do you do? I know this is quite a silly question , but it makes me wonder what it means to read a book-just the Story or also appreciating the fullness of the written words.

I tend to only count unabridged books as books I've read.

But you can add anything you want to your reading list - absolutely your choice. I have a separate tag on Goodreads to note if it was radio or podcast so I don't confuse it with a book I've read.

I don't think I'd say I'd read a book if I'd listened to the unabridged version. It was the only way that I could get through Middlemarch. I think I'd feel a bit of a cheat if I said that I'd read Middlemarch.

I definitely wouldn't say that I'd read a book if I'd only listened to the abridged version.

I count it if it's the full story but not abridged.

I listened to Jaws on Book at Bedtime & it was about 7 or 8 segments each lasting 15 minutes.

It was fun but very much the bare bones of story, So I wouldn't count it on Goodreads.

Definitely count the full version of a book though as you've heard every word!

Reading books isn't about knowing the story though. If that was the case you could watch the film and claim you've read the book.
