Who else will be reading?

Hi op, I'm currently listening to it on Audible. I'm on chapter 25, how are you finding it?

saveyourkissesforme · 25/08/2018 17:35

I'm three quarters of the way through it. It's very readable. Thought provoking. I think I like it. Has nothing like the depth of Handmaid's Tale of course.

Polarbearflavour · 26/08/2018 16:41

I read it in one evening. I really liked it but it was lacking something. 4 out of 5 stars for me!

Just finished now. I really enjoyed it. Very readable and really pulled me in. I agree that it felt lacking in onething though. I think the ending felt possibly rushed? Or just lacking really, Felt sorry for Patrick. I think if turned into a film, it could work well visually.

saveyourkissesforme · 26/08/2018 20:38

It's ideal for a film I reckon. I wasn't sure about the ending either. I did lose interest a little in the closing chapters.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 26/08/2018 20:46

So did I. I think it felt muddled in a way maybe it’s just how I read it though. Visually I reckon it would come across better.

What about the "dirty" Nicholson Baker version?
Wink

TheThirdOfHerName · 26/08/2018 21:43

Thank you for the recommendation; have bought it for my kindle

PopGoesTheWeaz · 26/08/2018 23:22

MsAmerica, that was my thought too. Flashbacks to college. sigh.

TheThirdOfHerName · 28/08/2018 01:06

I agree that it's not a literary masterpiece (mistresspiece?) like The Handmaid's Tale, but it's a good page-turner.

SweetestThing · 29/08/2018 07:53

Halfway through and really enjoying it - although maybe enjoying isn't quite the right word! I find my self getting angry with the situation and also think it is scarily plausible.

SoftAsACactus · 30/08/2018 10:06

Jesus what a load of tripe! Like a mills and boon

mum2jakie · 06/01/2019 20:15

I've just finished this. I did enjoy it but agree with comments here that the ending felt rushed and somewhat contrived. Interesting concept though.

Rodenhide · 13/01/2019 19:49

It wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be but it was a good concept and I agree with pp who said it would make a good film. Definitely an enjoyable read, though.

BaconAndAvocado · 20/01/2019 21:54

I enjoyed it but thought the writing, although pacey and engaging, was a little unsophisticated and too colloquial in places.

The writing reminded me a bit of another recent dystopian novel, The Power.
