Orm, I agree, I loved House on the Strand, and it IS odd; I found it very haunting even though the main characters are I think unsympathetic and pretty unappealing!

OrmIrian · 04/06/2007 13:36

They are horrible aren't they honoria. Really unpleasant, But it didn't matter.

ChippyMinton · 04/06/2007 13:41

Read House on Strand in my book group, and it got me hooked. Once you got the hang of the time travel, it was gripping.

fishie · 04/06/2007 13:45

the scapegoat is really fab too, another one with unpleasant characters.

Roux · 04/06/2007 20:28

ok now this has been bugging me all afternoon

but I think I might have found him

I thinking... Philip Ashley

MadLabOwner · 04/06/2007 21:41

Frenchman's Creek is one of my all time favourite books - all full of pirates and ladies of the manor....marvellous stuff

Roux · 05/06/2007 09:56

Love Frenchman's Creek too MadLab

Dogsby - how's it going with Rachel??
I soooo can't wait for you to finish

Hard to discuss any further without spoiling your enjoyment
Savour every word, every syllable, every moment..
But do it blawdy quickly so we can have a chat about it

Surfermum · 05/06/2007 10:02

Frenchman's Creek is a fab book.

Our most romantic moment ever was dh rowing me, 6 months pregnant, up Frenchman's Creek on a very still, clear, sunny January morning. We couldn't hear a thing except the oars dipping into the water.

Roux · 05/06/2007 10:06

Now that's what I call romantic Surfermum

Do you live in Cornwall?

Surfermum · 05/06/2007 10:07

No, I'm in Dorset, but I get to Cornwall as often as I can, I love it there.

Roux · 05/06/2007 10:12

Hense the name I guess huh!

Fabulous surfing in Cornwall

DCs had surfing lessons last year whilst on their hols. They loved it

Surfermum · 05/06/2007 10:15

I don't go very often these days, since having dd, and when I do I can't move for 3 days afterwards as I'm so unfit! I can't wait until we can go together.

I thank you for approving of my 'Philip' choice - it took up a lot of brain space but it finally came to me in a flash of inspiration. I'm liking Oliver Chris very much indeed.

Hmm.. Bergerac for the godfather, very interesting choice. I think we might be getting there. I think I may just treat myself to a re-read. Last read this book 2 years ago.

'Sizzles'?? If this is an aged 14 year old retriever then you might be on the right track.

How are you getting on with your read?
As I said before I don't want to pressure you to race through it (I do really... blardy hurry up) but am mad keen to discuss once you've finished. Perhaps we can start a tread to review when you get there. What I want to know is - where are all the other Cousin Rachel readers? Surely this must have caught the imagination of other bookworms? There must be others we can prevail upon to join us
