Well-written filth that’s fun

Any ideas?

Would love some quality smut to read on holiday.

(Please don’t suggest Anaïs Nin, not into abuse/paedophilia no matter how literary)

Fan fic. Choose your fandom.

Do you like sci fi/ fantasy? The Darynda Jones First grave books are supernatural with a heavy dose of smut thrown in.

SilkyDrawers · 26/07/2018 22:42

Funny you should mention that! I’m on the fanfic thread - it’s what sparked my interest in finding more published books to read. I really want to put my phone down more and read actual books made of paper Smile

Love fantasy - thanks for the suggestion drmadeline.

You're welcome. There are 12 of them in the series so plenty to be getting on with.

Also, Ilona Andrews writes fab fantasy books. One of them...White Hot is racier than the rest of what she writes.

The Sookie Stackhouse books have a bit of filth in them, are also vampire mysteries. I have read them a few times

DoraJar · 27/07/2018 06:53

The Rabbit books by Updike or Sabbaths Theatre by Roth

SilkyDrawers · 27/07/2018 07:58

I read the Sookie Stackhouse books many years ago, they were fun!

Will check out Ilona Andrews... keen to find a few novels to pack in my suitcase Smile

Dora Updike is a perfect suggestion, thanks! Used to love his books, and I haven’t read the rabbit series… Plus he’s ‘literary” enough for DH not to look askance at my choice of reading material Grin.

Don’t get me wrong - I read what I like. My ‘work’ reading is dry enough that I have no problem choosing lighter things for holiday reading. But it’s nice occasionally to have a book I’m not ashamed to admit to especially when on holiday with more highbrow friends, do you know what I mean?

OOh I’ve thought of some more! ‘The Bad Girl’ by Llosa (in fact quite a few by Llosa!) or ‘Love in the time of Cholera’ by Marquez

If you don't mind m/m smut, I love KJ Charles. There's a lot of pastiche in there, and lots of humour. My favourite of hers is Henchmen of Zenda, which re-writes The Prisoner of Zenda from the pov of the bad guys (you do need to have read Prisoner, but it's a quick read & available free on Kindle).

I'd also recommend the Society of Gentlemen series if you like Georgette Heyer (lots of fun to be had playing spot the Heyer character in the background).

SilkyDrawers · 29/07/2018 07:36

sadik I loved the KJ Charles ‘Gentlemen’ series. Big fan of hers. Better written than other Georgette Heyer + smut options like Julia Quinn etc. She’s good on Twitter, too. Haven’t read Henchman of Zenda so will give that a whirl.

KJ Charles has become my go-to for fun de-stressing books Silky - I read Spectred Isle after a recommendation on (I think) Ann Leckie's blog, and have worked my way through most of them now.

In somewhat the same vein, though the comedy is a bit more slapstick I like Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate books. If you don't know them the main series is more innuendo than straight up smut, but her novellas set in the same universe are much more saucy (Romancing the Inventor is my favourite).
