.....for books ds (7) might enjoy?. He has discovered and loved the Captain Underpants books but we've done Dav Pilkey to death now. He likes all kinds of non-fiction but I'd love to see him enjoying more fiction. He can't stand his school reading books, btw, we ignore those!
Anything considered, no censorship in this house.

Horrid Henry is often popular with boys!
You will see why if he reads them!

cadelaide · 25/05/2007 14:53

Aah yes spudmasher, should have said he's very familiar with those too. But that's about it really, Capt UP and HH. Thanks anyway!

My seven year old DD is very into Famous Five at the moment. Most of her other reading matter is rather, ahem, pink, but he have also had a couple of Michael Morpurgo's books that she has really enjoyed - Cool and War Horse are v boy-friendly.

There are so many books for girls and so few for boys ... DD has bookshelves that groan .... DS has lego ...

I have truly started to get irate about this - why should books in the 5-7 range all be about f**ing ballerinas and therefore totally not possible to be read by the average little boy?

Spuddy suggested horrid henry. I can truthfully say that if it weren't for horrid henry and captain underpands, my little boy would never read at home.

RosaLuxembourg · 25/05/2007 21:54

I only have girls Q but I often look at bookshop shelves and wonder what they would find to read if they were boys. It does seem to get better for the older age groups though.

turquoise · 25/05/2007 21:56

Dick King Smith? Ds loved Sophie at that age, it's not just for girls.

PandaG · 25/05/2007 21:57

DS (7) has just started the 'Series of UNfortunate Events' - raced through the first book and impatient for the next to arrive! (waiting on a job lot from Ebay!)
