I'm currently reading a Bill Bryson book and it's making me laugh a lot. What's the best laugh out loud book you've read?

A long time ago now, but I read Are You Dave Gorman? on a train journey and had lots of odd looks because I was laughing so much.

Bingpot · 30/06/2018 13:43

Saw the title and my first thought was Bill Bryson!

TheQueef · 30/06/2018 13:44

Following for recommendations.

I really really need a good belly laugh!

gussiefox · 30/06/2018 14:08

Anything by Carl Hiassen.

CramptonHodnet · 30/06/2018 14:43

Any of David Sedaris's books. Guaranteed to make you laugh.

BlackandWhitePostcards · 01/07/2018 16:08

I came on to say Bill Bryson too. So funny, I almost wet myself Blush. Bridget Jones (the first one I think) also made me laugh out loud, on a train, years ago. Really embarrassing, it was a horrible snotty, can’t breathe kind of laugh Blush.

phoolani · 01/07/2018 16:19

Nora ephron always makes me laugh.

Badbilly · 01/07/2018 16:29

Another one who was coming on to say Bill Bryson.

Also, "Three Men in a Boat" by Jerome K Jerome. I read this book often (or just snippets) & even though I've read it a zillion times, and know exactly what's going to happen, I still find it hilarious . I think it's the wonderful Victorian/Edwardian language that adds to its funniness.

MrsGrindah · 01/07/2018 16:33

Love Nina I think it’s called. That had me annoying the man sat next to me. Also Where d’you go Bernadette and The Supremes at Earls All You Can Eat

Strange but I don’t find the authors mentioned above funny at all! Just goes to show how individual humour is

‘This is going to hurt’ by Adam Kay - really good, funny, easy to pick up and put down as stories are in short chapters. Amazon reviews speak for themselves:

Vanity Fair is making me laugh out loud at the moment (only about 40% in). The narrator's turn of phrase is hilarious, oozing with smart raised eyebrow wit.

P.G. Wodehouse's Mulliner books are hilarious.

Ohlellykelly · 17/07/2018 21:43

Jack Dee's autobiography made me laugh loads, but Peter Kay's is even more funny.

Twilight456 · 18/07/2018 14:17

Sophie kinsella books/also writes as madeline wickham always make me laugh, love the way she writes.

Tinkhasflown · 18/07/2018 17:18

Another vote for Adam Kays This is going to Hurt. I found it to be a brilliant read. I had to keep reading bits out loud to my dh as he wanted to know what was so funny.

ineedwine99 · 18/07/2018 17:19

Any of Will Self's books I've read have made me laugh out loud.
I also always find them disturbing Hmm

KokoandAllBall · 24/07/2018 00:15

Bill Bryson for me too! The Lost Continent, Neither Here Nor There, and Notes From A Small Island have all made me snort laughing on public transport. I wish he'd get the travel bug again...
