I love psychological thriller but there seem to be so many awful awful ones out there. So, I guess I’m asking for some recommendations - I love Tana French, Sharon Bolton, Belinda Bauer, Sabine Durrant and Camilla way.

Liz Nugent!

NobodysMot · 21/06/2018 21:36

Also, Peter Swanson

Oh I actually really liked the Kind Worth Killing, haven’t read any of his others. Was Liz Nugent the author of Unravelling Oliver?

Yes she was! I really liked Unravelling Oliver and her most recent book. Her middle one wasn't as strong (still good though).

I'm readin paula hawkin's second one right now. Seems good. That book was very hyped.

I love The Farm by Tom Rob Smith, gripping and very different from other psychological thrillers.

I know what you mean as lots have a decent beginning but then drag, and the plot gets ludicrous towards the end.

My Cousin Rachel by du Maurier. Utterly superb. I'm afraid it will probably ruin any other psychological thrillers you may read afterwards. Has done so for me.

Yes to Liz Nugent. I've also recently enjoyed The Foundling by Rosalyn Ziebell - there are several books called The Foundling on Amazon.

NobodysMot · 26/06/2018 20:59

@scribblygum, yeh it was good but a different genre really, I preferred Scapegoat.

@mykingdomforacaramel, Sabine durrant has a new one out! I loved the writing in her most recent one ''lie with me'' it was very Martin Amis and then just as I was thinking that, a character who was showing off, trying to present a persona that would win over ''Alice'' (I think) he referred to a copy of the rachel papers!

I love Tana French as well, so, I'm going to look up sharon bolton and belinda bauer on book depository now.

Reading the description of Camilla Way's ''Watching Edie'' reminds me that Phiippa Gregory's The Little House is an excellent psychological thriller. Not her usual fare at all but very very good.

StuntBottom · 26/06/2018 21:10

Claire Mackintosh and Lisa Jewell are good. Mary Torjussen has written two great thrillers - The Girl I Used To Be and Gone Without A Trace. She's a MNetter, too.

QuitMoaning · 26/06/2018 21:12

What about Nikki French? A couple of theirs (it is a husband and wife team I think) have been awesome although they can be hit and miss IMO.

NobodysMot · 26/06/2018 21:15

I've read a few of those nikki french ones and they're very bleak (jmo)

Lisa Jewell's early books were very good. Ralph's Party and the next four or five books I loved.

Just ordered The Craftsman and Watching Edie

In addition to the above, I've recently enjoyed Sarah Pinborough - Behind Her Eyes and The Widow - Fiona Barton.

Feenie · 28/06/2018 17:20

Yes! The Little House has the best ending ever. Loved it.

Nicci French's Frieda Klein series is fab, also a huge fan of CL Taylor and Sharon Bolton

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/07/2018 07:25

Can't beat a bit of Mo Hayder for psychological thrillers. Also Peter Robinson, Peter James, Elizabeth Haynes.

Clawdy · 18/07/2018 12:45

The Burning Air by Erin Kelly is brilliant. I'm good at spotting twists, but never saw that one coming!

slipperyeel · 18/07/2018 14:11

Barbara Vine

LaLaLamp · 19/07/2018 00:02

I'll suggest Elizabeth Haynes as well, and Peter James (start with Dead Simple but be warned you WILL end up buying them all)
