My dad was talking to me today about a book set around the French Revolution. It’s about an agent or investigator...possibly with a religious connection.. who then comes to live in London. My dad is really keen to find it as he loved it so much.
Thanks so much

The Scarlet Pimpernel perhaps?

Does your dad remember when he read it (that's a clue to the age of the book).

Is it likely to be contemporary historical fiction or more of a classic like A Tale of Two Cities?

Dance no it’s not either of them it’s a less well known book. But I forgot to ask him when he read it that’s a good question.

Polly I asked him and it’s not that. But he has downloaded it and plans to read it so thanks very much.

Could it be one of the S.J Parris books? They are set in the 1580s and feature Giordano Bruno. He is a monk/investigator that travels Europe, including London, unravelling treason, murder, conspiracies etc

Oh, that’s a pity, Bestbe- I was sure that would be it. I’m sure he’ll enjoy it though. It’s very good. I would suggest The Red Necklace by Sally Gardner, but it’s YA so probably not his thing?

There is the Nicholas Le Floch series by the French author Jean Francois Parot.

The stories span several decades, from before to after the Revolution, this is first one I think.
