DeviousDaffodil · 17/05/2007 20:25

Mrs MAdrigal.
I wanted her to be my Mum.
Wasn't she a HE though?
Been a long time since I read these?

moondog · 17/05/2007 20:26

How bloody ace is that??

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:31

oh wow...read them ALL when they were first published...adored them, quoted from them, bought them countless times as presents, gave some away, bought copies again, read them others,...model myself on Mouse..'cept not gay. Or American. Or cuttingly witty. Or handsome in a cute kinda way. But still model myself on Mouse.

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:31

Yes, DD (ah, reference!), he walked on the wild side.

DeviousDaffodil · 17/05/2007 20:33

Was ther a DD?
I am very foggy on my recollections.

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:35

KezzaG.."Michael Tolliver Lives and is out on 18th June."...bit behind the times then.

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:36

Dee Dee was a character, Dior, who was black, but took medication to turn her skin white as work as a model would be more easy to come by.

OtterInnit · 17/05/2007 20:38

lovin it
might order the next series on my amazon rental

mummytosteven · 17/05/2007 20:43

New? Completely new? WOW! Even if not a TOTC book, still a GOOD thing.

WotNoCrocs · 17/05/2007 20:44

This is the best news! I tried to balance my adolescent reading between Stephen King and Armistead Maupin. Explains a lot really.

Nobody understood me.

OtterInnit · 17/05/2007 20:44

i call dp Babycakes - its not naff - its an AM thang.......

hoxtonchick · 17/05/2007 20:46

oh, i can't wait for this. have had it on pre-order from amazon for a looooong time .

Blandmum · 17/05/2007 20:46

D'orothea was white but took tablets to darken her skin. Her lesbian lover found out when she invited D'or's parents round for some soul food at christmas

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:48

Ha!! Yes, MB, THAT'S what I meant to type....the scene of the reconciliation was excrutiatingly funny.

Blandmum · 17/05/2007 20:49

Yup, Mona originally thought that D'or was an 'Oreo', brown on the outside, but white on the inside. LOLOL

Loved the description of Mona's office as well, with the toilet as a seat.

Smutti · 17/05/2007 20:50

Cool! Have only discovered them in last couple of years. Have got Babycakes as my holiday read!

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:51

and Dee Dee was the daughter of Mrs Madrigal's 'lover' in TOTC, who went on to bear the twins of the Asian grocery boy...I hope!!

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:52

could do this for ever...when Mona had to tell the boss of her company that someone was Xeroxing their genitals...using the 'enlarger' facility....pmsl!!

Blandmum · 17/05/2007 20:53

Yes. Edgar Halcyon. Who dies at the end of book 1.

Mother Halcyon marries again, and 'Booter' is the one who gets mixed up in Wimminwood, where DeeDee and D'or have gone with the twins.

Fantastic stuff.

Just as coincidence I have just re-read book 3

JaneAustenAllegro · 17/05/2007 20:55

oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I read brief mention of this in Guardian Weekend on Saturday and almost wet myself with excitement

It is SO long since the Night Listener (haven't got round to watching the film yet, very puzzled by the trailers, didn't fit with my recollection of the book at all)

I first read TOTC when I was 16/17, haven't re-read them for a few years, think I will start tonight!

I love Mouse.......

MrMariella · 17/05/2007 20:56

when they were first published, Iwas living with two gay guys, one of them my best buddy in life...he was more AM than AM!! Such happy times.

Roobie · 17/05/2007 21:10

Wasn't it Mary Anne (not lesbian lover) who invited D'Or's parents round to instigate a reconciliation?

Roobie · 17/05/2007 21:11

Oh no it was Mona of course!! Must reread asap
