Loved it. Interesting idea well done, IMO. And I liked the ending!

kalex · 09/08/2004 19:36

Has anybody else read Lucky. Written by the same authoress. Autibiographical (sp), and totally the most harrowing read!

I bought it coz I loved Lovely Bones, she still has the same descriptive wrting but becasue you know that it actually happened it is awful

But ...... thinking of the words.... no, maybe somebody else can put it better.

kalex · 09/08/2004 19:37

Yeah totally Beety, I read them both into the long hours and had to get up at 6.40 to go to work, not good, espically when trying to get 2 kids out of the house as well

sammac · 09/08/2004 19:53

Yorkie I've got one to do a swap with.........

Tinker · 09/08/2004 19:55

Cried uncontrollably when I finished Lovely Bones - but can't remember the ending at all now

Chinchilla · 09/08/2004 20:24

I have just read it. I found it interesting in the concept of heaven, and the fact that the girl managed to make herself seen in things like shards of glass. I was disappointed in the ending, in that the murderer was never caught, and got off lightly in a quick death. I also thought that his death could have been dealt with more thoroughly...you know, his spirit seeing all the women and girls that he had murdered, and feeling the correct remorse, or something like that. It was just dealt with in a 'and he fell into snow and died' kind of way.

I enjoyed the style of writing very much, and did feel the pain of the family. It was moving from that point of view. Also, I liked the way that the girl saw her family move on and was pleased for them.

daisy1999, I'm with you, did nothing for me.

Three of us then!

juniper68 · 09/08/2004 23:30

I loved it, couldn't put it down. I was pleased with the ending mostly as I just thought of him being judged in heaven. Wish they'd found her tho and given her a nice burial.

anyone want to swap lovely bones for Lucky?

have any of you read her true account of her rape and the trial?
That is awakening, you then figure out how she can write about such terrible acts of humanity with such warmth and humour...
It's a brilliant dissection of life

binker · 10/08/2004 17:33

Have read about three quarters of it but have put it aside ...don't quite know why...started to read a Hilary Mantell from the library instead...v good.

sammac · 10/08/2004 18:27

socci, you hit the nail on the head...i am now reading her other book 'Lucky' which is the true story of her how "her life was transformed when she was brutally raped and beaten". it really is harrowing to raed in parts. i am much more hooked than with LB

lou33 · 16/09/2004 19:30

Glad to hear others who didn't rate LB much. I do want to read Lucky though.
