Recommendations for a good book

You all seem like a good bunch to ask. I've read far too much and have become very bored with the poor plots and predictable storylines. I haven't read a really good book in ages - you know something that is original or sticks in your head. Whats the last really good book you read?

Have you read The Time Traveller's Wife yet?

Half Yellow of the Sun - unputdownable!

Suite Francaise very good.

Currently reading Oryx and Crake which is really good.

Just finished The Historian which was very involving. Perhaps a little long in places but you get carried away with the story so I didn't notice.

Wow, that's fantastic. Didn't expect such quick responses. I've read a couple of the books mentioned. I'll make a list of the others and spend a good hour in Waterstones tomorrow.

Thank you. Looks like I won't be doing much around the house for the while.

Cloud Atlas....cannot describe how much this book will have you going to the loo and pretending to your dh that youve got a belly ache so you can sneak a few more pages in...

second the historian.

I loved it.

TwoIfBySea · 15/05/2007 23:29

Second Cloud Atlas and also by the same author Black Swan Green.

Cold Mountain is good but exhausting.
Q&A by Vikas Swarup is Brilliant. Very clever, very engaging, and, overall, a positive book (I don't like depressing books)

Oh I've seen my sis reading the historian so I'll borrow it off her if she's finished.

I know Cloud Atlas got really good reviews but tbh I wasn't particularly fussed on it. I loved the somni story but I thought the whole concept that linked the characters was a bit weak.
