I'm half way through & not connecting with it at all. It's on audio & wondering whether to bother continuing....everyone else seems to love it. Is this as good as it gets?

I also struggled through The Essex Serpent. My husband enjoyed it and said he thought I would so I kept waiting for an interesting part to happen but it didn’t. Usually I do stop reading a book if I’m not enjoying it. Life’s too short and there are so many other books to discover and enjoy.

I read a third and it didn't give me any reason to carry on reading it. The cover's pretty but that's about the most positive thing I can say.

Ooh karma-alive just bought Autumn-I've liked Ali Smith before but can't remember the name of it for now so will be interesting to see.

Yes we all take things differently. Many many years ago I read a book called I'll go to bed at noon & enjoyed it, thought it was hilarious.

Passed it to a friend who said she cried her eyes out as it was so depressing!!

It is fairly shite and unreadable tbh.
I find most novels like that these days, just some are more pretentious than others.

I was really looking forward to it and found it slow and boring. Gave up around 200 pages in

buckeejit Ali Smith is easily my favourite living author and, in my opinion (and I'm very aware that not many people will share it but live and let live) the best writer in the English language since Virginia Woolf. Autumn is a gorgeous book, as is the next in the quartet. Can't wait for Spring and Summer!
