No particular genre (though not a sci-fi fan). I really liked The Little Stranger if that helps but hated Gone Girl (no likeable characters, too far fetched) and didn’t believe Apple Tree Yard right from the off when she just went off and shagged him within 30 seconds of meeting.... Also can’t deal with stories where horrid things happen to children!

Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris

Graphista · 19/01/2018 13:50

Before I go to sleep SJ Watson - loved it.
Behind the scenes at the museum - Kate Atkinson
A secret house of death - Ruth rendell
Anybody out there, the mystery of mercy close - Marian Keyes
Some lie and some die - Ruth rendell

This is short stories but all with a twist - mostly fun but one or two need tissues.

A twist in the tale - Jeffrey archer.

Bald water lilies by Michael Bussi. I gasped.

bigbadbarry · 19/01/2018 13:52

Erm, ^Black water lilies. Not bald.

iammeegan · 19/01/2018 13:55

Hide and seek. Murder mystery type book. It's very ripping and I finished it in a day!

Yourownworstenemy · 19/01/2018 15:59

Jeffery deaver does some short stories doesn't he, is it twisted and more twisted? They are a good start if you're wondering whether you'd like him or not

DwangelaForever · 19/01/2018 16:01

Claire Macintosh books have an interesting twist

Chocwocdoodah · 19/01/2018 17:25

Loads of suggestions here - only ones I’ve read are Fingersmith and We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves but my memory is so crap I could probably read them again and have no idea what’s coming!

iamawoman · 19/01/2018 17:27

Definately fingersmith

Chocwocdoodah · 19/01/2018 17:43

Hang on, maybe I haven’t read Fingersmith - what’s the Sarah Waters one that involves a prison in some way? Someone’s in prison, or visits a prison or works in it or something? See, amazing memory....

NaiceToMeetYou · 19/01/2018 17:45

Any Sydney Sheldon but especially The Other Side Of Midnight

codswallopandbalderdash · 19/01/2018 20:16

The sarah waters one in a prison setting is affinity. Fingersmith is very good.

Chocwocdoodah · 19/01/2018 23:44

Affinity? Title doesn’t ring a bell....seriously, I’m amazed I can even remember how to read....

Just finished The Last Mrs Parrish. Excellent twist and highly recommend it. Not very high brow but a good read all the same.

PerspicaciaTick · 20/01/2018 00:06

The Wasp Factory.
