Just that really,,, I've been on a few different threads and feel like a lot of people don't seem to read chic-lit so when I do post on them no one ever replies lol.

So I thought I'd start a thread for anyone that does read this genre.

I've just finished Alphabet Weekends by Elizabeth Noble - it's the second time I've read it and I really enjoyed it.

I'm a few pages into another Elizabeth Noble book called The reading group and I'm already wanting to know more about the characters. I love her style of writing where she kind of drip feeds the stories as it being surprises through out. Although when I've had a bad day/sleep I do sometimes struggle to keep up with who's who.

My favourite author is Sarah Morgan I think I've read every single one of her books and I can't wait for her next one to be published. My aim is to read a book a week this year. I have set up a little reading corner in my room with a lovely throw, a mat for my cup on the bedside table and a new lamp so when the kids are in bed I can read in my room. There's no TV in there so I won't be tempted to watch something instead. I hope someone reads this and does join in with my chic lit rambles ThanksThanks

I'm a big fan of Jill Mansell, and rediscovered Jenny Colgan recently too. Love Marian Keyes, although her most recent one The Break, wasn't up there with the Walsh family series! And Sophie Kinsella is good, and not just all about the Shopaholic series.

Dont get the chance to read as much as I'd like to, but got into audiobooks a few years ago, and that's been a revelation for me!

DwangelaForever · 13/01/2018 22:07

Lucy Diamond and Milly Johnson are great and I find they're not too fluffy!!

Love Harriet Evans as well. What does everyone make of Jane Fallon? I've only ever read one of hers but I wasn't too convinced.

I like Adele Parks too, The State We're In killed me!

diamantegal · 14/01/2018 00:19

Try Louise Bagshawe (now Mensch) and her sister Tilly (although not the Swell Valley ones).

I'm not going to lie, they're reasonably formulaic - downtrodden woman beats the odds to conquer men - but they are hugely readable and my go-to easy read.

And on a similar theme, I quite like Tasmina Perry and Rebecca Chance for some mindless escapism.

Doctordonowt · 14/01/2018 07:14

Just of to look up these. Thanks for this thread

WhiskeySourpuss · 14/01/2018 07:25

I'm currently listening to The Break & agree it's not on a par with the Walsh family sagas but I won't have a bad word said about Marian as she's lovely & once sent me a Chanel nail varnish just cause I said I loved the colour on Twitter!

I'm reading Falling by Jane Green which also isn't as good as her earlier stuff & I already know how it's going to end but I'm still enjoying it!

Rosegardensandgin · 14/01/2018 08:39

Any chic lit on kindle unlimited? I read very quickly and it costs me a fortune to buy all the books so I have subscribed to kindle unlimited but anything I have found on them
seems to be lacking....

mumof2sarah · 14/01/2018 09:01

I'm writing all these authors down as they come in for when I get my reading bug back. I'm seriously struggling to pick one up ATM 😩

Sorry @Rosegardensandgin I wouldn't know where to start with kindle I tried it once and I missed the feel of an actual book in my hands. Google most read romance on kindle and see what that brings up maybe x

Who have you tried on kindle unlimited rosegarden? Have you read anything by Catherine Bybee, Kim Law or Jamie Beck?

DwangelaForever · 14/01/2018 10:09

@diamantegal if you like Tasmina Perry and Rebecca Chance, try Victoria Fox and Katie Agnew they are great!!

I've also read a few by Nigel May that are quite good!

diamantegal · 14/01/2018 13:53

Ooh yes, I should have said Victoria Fox as well. Will look out for the others - thank you!

My New Year's resolution was to try and read better books - this thread isn't helping! Although there's definitely something to be said for nice easy relaxing books - sometimes you can try too hard and it stops being fun.

DwangelaForever · 14/01/2018 14:19

@diamantegal I know what you mean I said I would try to read more classics this year, but I keep finding new crime thrillers or chick lit books and find myself wanting to read those instead Blush

FizziWater · 14/01/2018 15:12

I don't mind a bit of chic lit.
Erica James
Jill Mansell
Katie Fforde
Fiona Gibson
Wendy Holden
Lianne Moriarty
Sinead Moriarty

I love to hear Marian Keyes speak but don't "get" her writing. I follow her on twitter and she does a vlog. This one is great.

Apologies if these authors are not considered to be chic lit, perhaps the phrase Romantic Fiction might be better.

mumof2sarah · 14/01/2018 15:14

@FizziWater I've read a few so sad Moriaty and really enjoyed them. I'm the same with Marian Keynes I love to hear her views and talking but not as keen on her books xx

bookbook · 14/01/2018 15:22

I came on to recommend Katie Fforde, but see you have one to start - she is my chick lit favourite. I like lots of different books, but sometimes it is only the chick lit that hits the spot.
When I was selling books for a living - Trisha Ashley was a big favourite .

MWestie · 15/01/2018 20:53

Recently read The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and would definitely recommend it.

marjolaine · 15/01/2018 22:53

I haven't read the two most recent ones but I found the earlier Debby Holt books enjoyable if you want another name for your list.

mumof2sarah · 16/01/2018 08:02

I've had to put down lit at the minute and am reading a self help book about CBT. It's not a big book and should only take a day or two but I think it'll help me in the long run. That katie Fford is there and waiting for when I finish it

Hi Chick Lit and Romance fans. There's a great competition here where you can win a load of free romance books!

bookhub.online/win-a-valentines-day-book-bundle

Give it a look.

ElizaCBennett · 23/03/2018 12:32

WhiskeySourpuss I've just finished Falling by Jane Green. Did it actually finish how you expected it to? Not me - I was shocked! Did not see that coming at all

Knackerelli · 30/03/2018 13:51

Love lots of the authors already mentioned on here, especially Lucy dillon, Jill Mansell, jenny colgan and Milly Johnson. Can I add Debbie Johnson’s comfort food cafe series and Alice Peterson as good reads.

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2018 10:10

Hello! Love this thread. I am a big Marian Keyes fan - Rachels Holiday would be one of my all time favourites. And I still love Jilly Cooper (Riders, Rivals and Polo only though). Lisa Jewell has branched out a bit since Ralph's Party (an oldie but a goodie still I think) and I've really enjoyed all her books.
Now thinking about searching for my old copy of Jennifer Crusie - Welcome to Temptation. It was a favourite of mine 15 years ago and am wondering whether it still stands up.
But I am intending to have a look through the other suggestions - I should really try reading some new things rather than going back to old favourites!

snewsname · 31/03/2018 10:14

I'm taking note. Thanks guys.

burnoutbabe · 31/03/2018 10:21

Isn't Jane Fallon the partner of Rocky Gervaise. I liked her stuff, the dark side of romance!

Adele Parks and Jane Green both seem to have gone off the boil of late. Also enjoyed the Dorothy Kasoom books in the past.

Any 99p from £2.99 book on kindle has generally been rubbish! You can tell she will get with the newly widowed new doctors as SOON as he is mentioned.

Notonthestairs · 31/03/2018 10:34

Yes Jane Fallon is the partner of Ricky Gervaise. I read The Ugly Sister and think she writes about womens relationships really well. I like romance with a bit of an edge!
I also feel a bit like Jane Green and Adele Parks have lost their way a little. I will hunt out the Dorothy Kasoom books as I have never come across them.

AKAmyself · 01/04/2018 10:57

Not so much Into chick lit but I love historical romance. Have just posted about a brilliant one I finished last night - False Lights by KJ Whittaker
