What books have you had for Christmas this year? Fiction and/or non fiction.

Hoping to be given more books this weekend when we see more family.

I got Sarah Millicans book. And dh got me a book to test our dogs IQ. Pointless cos I think he's an undiscovered genius 🤣

I got Margaret Atwood's Hagseed and The Farm by Tom Rob Smith

I got Dawn French new diary one. Looks interesting after a quick glance through.

To kill a mocking bird & Go set a Watchman.

The Ballroom. Never heard of it before, its been placed in my pile of books to read. I might get to it around March unless someone specifically recommends it on here to read

Hagseed is excellent, if you've not read The Penelopiad by her, I can highly recommend it.

One of those reprinted vintage murder mystery ones.

A book on Nordic cookery including recipes for seal, whale, fulmar and puffin. From in laws.

I got a book about Irish dog breeds as our dog is a rare Irish breed. It was actually quite informative, I’d never heard of a Kerry beagle before.

I came on specifically to find this thread.

In Jail with Nazim Hikmet by Orhan Kemal. My excitement levels went through the roof with this one I have coveted it for so long. Non-fic memoir about writers in prison in Turkey in 1940s-50s.

Common People by Alison Light. Microhistory of her own family for uni but also because I am interested in writing about my own findings.

The Great Cat Massacre and other episodes in French cultural history, also for uni but I have a copy so donating my free copy to someone in my class next term.

DH and the DC have bought me £100 of Waterstones vouchers so I am having an early start in the morning to go and spend a few hours (4.5 last time I had this opportunity) spending some. Top of the list is The Idiot by Elif Batuman.

This means nothing, I got the 'dog iq' book for dh! (Because he thinks the dog is stupid but actually...)

I got, as requested, 'the glorious heresies.'

Liza Tarbuck's I an distracted by everything

I cannot wait to sit down if I ever get chance again

I am on Jury Service soon so will take it with me

The Gormenghast trilogy....not sure about it but will give it a go!

Mary Beards Women & Power stayed up til 3 last night. Blown away.

I got 'The Power' by Naomi Alderman.
I also got Ali Smith's latest - 'Winter'. I'm collecting the quartet - she's one of my absolute favourites.

I got 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' by Gail Honeyman - and I've just finished it after starting it two days ago. It was un-putdown able! !! Loved it, thoroughly recommend it.

I always get a couple of random book club type books.

They sit on my shelf pointlessly as I supply book club books to the 40+ clubs that run out of the library and it puts me right off.

I got the unmumsy mum diary, the new Giovanna Fletcher and the illustrated Harry Potter book.

I got Margaret Atwoods Hagseed, which I have almost finished and really enjoying.

I also got Irvine Welsh The Blade Artist, I love Irvine Welsh and now have all of his novels!
