I am a bit stuck for inspiration. She likes stories about girls (sigh) and has been enjoying Clever Polly, Naughty Little Sister, Goldishocks, Sophie stories...but have run out of inspiration.

Don't particularly want fairies or princesses. She is four and a half.

Pippi Longstocking ?

puddle · 16/04/2007 14:31

Famous five a bit old.

Horrid Henry "boys books" (her brother read them. I'm not that keen either!)

You recommended Jamie and Angus to me ages ago for DS and she loves those though.

She loves Polly but we read it with ds (7) - he likes it too. She doesn't understand all of it.

you need to register though

Ponce · 16/04/2007 14:34

the longer kipper stories are great

"i haev made a flat thign"

ArcticRoll · 16/04/2007 14:34

Secret Seven is for younger ones than Famous Five.
My dd(5) loves them.
Milly Molly Mandy are very comforting and old fashioned.

Ponce · 16/04/2007 14:35

arehtey?
secret seven?
aha!

puddle · 16/04/2007 14:36

She has Secret 7 phobia Arctic. We had a SS story tape on in the car and the villian was being horrid to his dogs - had to turn it off as dd in tears and she won't countenance reading now.

Thinking about it you're probably right puddle about Pippi.
Yes I chose my name cos it so naff and tasteless (rather like me)

puddle · 16/04/2007 14:37

I think Famous Five have stood the test of time rather better than SS.

I love the children's names in Secret Seven,;Colin and Barbara!

puddle · 16/04/2007 14:41

Seven is too many to keep tabs on too. I get all confused about who is who. The girls are all quite wet.

The Ramona Quimby series - very funny! BTW, Ramona is the character not the author!

puddle · 16/04/2007 14:45

Ah - not heard of Ramona. Will investigate.

What about "The Paperbag Princess". Okay, it's a princess, but not a typical one.

puddle · 16/04/2007 15:01

We have that eluisis - in my bid to de-princess dd. She also loves princess smartpants and wants to live with a similar collection of pets when she grows up.

what about those screwed up fairy tales

hana · 16/04/2007 15:12

back to Ramona Quibly and Henry Huggins - forget what age suitable for......read aloud for a 5 and half year old? loved those books growing up ( but reading myself)
